Commercial Description:
Our flagship, this beer defines the classic, American-Style Pale Ale. We looked to the Pacific Northwest, rather than England, for our inspiration and our ingredients. Utilizing malt, hops, water, and most importantly yeast from the USA allowed us to create a balanced, highly drinkable beer. It’s no accident that the Carrabassett Pale Ale is our top-selling beer, year after year.

Bottle from Duvel tulip @ cellar temp. Best before Apr 08. Dark coppery amber color, mostly clear but with very slight traces of sediment seen when I added the last drops from the bottle after letting the glass sit a while. White head was bubbly and lively but faded to a slight ring. It left no lacing whatsoever. Aroma is immediately hoppy but I can’t quite pin a description on it. Sort of grassy but with an earthiness. Anyway it smells good but faint. Thin and light, carbonation a bit sharp. Malt comes out in the flavor. Sweet, but there’s an orangey thing going on. Finishes dry and bitter but in an artificial way. Pretty boring overall I’m afraid.

12 oz Bottle-Trade w/mcox90-Pours a cloudy copper color w/a slight head. Slight malt aroma. Strong hop flavor up front which kind of overpowers everything else. looks like it would have a good malt finish, but it kind of gets lost in the hops. Kind of one dementionial, but the heavy hop fans will like it; lacks a little balance for me.

12 oz. bottle. Pours an amber hue with a thin white head. First few sips taste mildly of hops, then becomes sweeter. Slight taste of toffee/malts. Hops return at the finish for some bitterness. Overall a moderately priced drinkable ale along the lines of Sam Adams.

Amber body with thin offwhite head. Smells bready and hoppy. Tastes malty at the beginning with a hoppy bitter finnish. Sweet with some bitterness, and a hint of roastiness on the finish too. A very well-balanced beer. Medium in body with just slightly less carbonation than many APAs have. Very drinkable and enjoyable. A new favorite example of the style, from a brewery that hasn’t disappointed me yet!

This pale ale pours a light amber color with an average, fizzy off-white head. Good lacing, active carbonation. Aroma’s are of light hops, with hints of sweet, as well as a light soapy yeast scent. Also notes of berries and apple. Initial taste is lightly acidic, quickly turning over to a bitter finish. Mellows out to a sweeter taste however. Light on the mouth, it leaves an oily mouthfeel with lively carbonation.

(Bottle from <A HREF=http://www.downeastbeverage.com>Downeast Beverage Co. , best before 12/21/05) Hazy coppery amber, pretty bubbly. Frothy biscuit head. Aroma of toffee, malt, grass. Nice lacing. Mouthfeel sort of full, sort of watery at same time, prickly. Not much flavor, just some bitterness in finish. Entirely drinkable, just don’t expect much (or any) flavor.
