Commercial Description:
Our flagship, this Irish-Style Red Ale proudly won a gold medal at the 2000 World Beer Cup. A combination of 5 different malts and 3 hop varietals, carefully blended, results in a perfect balance. Full-flavored and medium-bodied, the Riptide Red provides surprising complexity for such an easy-drinking brew.

(Rating #750)

12oz bottle-pours a too big foamy(foamed on opening, best by 070306) light tan head and amber color. Aroma is sweet medium malt, faint hops. Taste is sweet medium malt, faint hop-bitterness, nutty. OK carbonation.

This Irish red pours a light amber/brown color with a fizzy, light-brown head. Good lacing behind a mostly diminishing head, with a flat, clear body. Aroma is of light roasted malts, and a light, doughy yeast scent. Initial taste is moderately bitter, mellowing to a light bitter finish, with an average duration on the mouth. Light on the palate, consistency is watery with soft carbonation.

Tried this as a local tap sampler at a bar in Freeport, and this was definitely the best of the three by far. Very red body with thin tan head. Smells sweet with hints of hops. Tastes sweet with some hop influence. Relatively well-balanced with slightly less emphasis on the hops. Medium Bodied. Very good beer, will probably et it again.

This was a fine brew that I enjoyed with lunch. The amber/brown pour was topped off with a white head. It smelled of nuts and hops. The flavor was much the same. It presented a nice mix of bitterness and malty body.

Draught pint at Red Bones 5/25/06. Pours a dark clear red color with a small white head. Nose is sweet with some light malt notes and some dry hop notes. Flavor is more sweet maltiness and light hop notes to dry out a bit.

bottle. pours redish brown, with fizzy white head. aroma of malt and seaweed. taste is of malts, some rotting seaweed and a hoppy bitter finnish. this sounds worse than it is. not really bad overall, but not that great either.
