rakkasan (55), Bresso, Italy Oct 24, 2009 bottle - pours cloudy yellow, large white frothy-fizzy head with good lacing. Nose presents grapefruit and apple with a hint of doughy yeast, which carries over to the taste, lightly sour. sound67 (157), Offenbach, Germany Sep 28, 2009 75cl bottle, as shown. Hazy, impenetrable pale yellow colour (blanche-r even than most wheat bears I know), big creamy head. Aroma of sweet bananas, but with a lemony yeast touch added. Bananas dominate the flavour, too, but they’re far less sweet than the aroma seemed to indicate. There’s even a whiff of perfume. Sour and slightly bitter finish, citric aftertaste. A lean wheat beer, less fruity than the German kind (Paulaner, Weihenstephan, you name ’em), and not as full-bodied. But a good wheat beer for warm weather, and it’ll grow on you as you keep drinking - which is what I’m doing right now. ;=) oh6gdx (8801), Vasa, Finland Apr 21, 2009 Bottled (from lahoublonniere.be). Hazy pale gold colour with a huge, rocky white head. Big aroma of coriander and orange with some yeast and graininess. Flavour had a touch of sour citrus, more coriander and a short finish. Ok. DruncanVeasey (2690), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Jan 13, 2008 At last a French witbier with some genuine character that doesn’t taste revoltingly synthetic. Milky lemony haze heaped with froth and lace. Aroma standard orange peel and crushed coriander seed, with a sourish wheaty edge, and some alcohol. Lemony and peppery with hints of grain, booze and cardboard, and a background whiskeyish note. Impressively full-bodied, natural-tasting witbier/blanche.
