| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 5, 2004 A blonde bier de garde from a 750 ml bottle with a clamped champagne style cork, which fairly flew across the room without any help from me once unleashed. Quite spritzy although that had, not surprisingly dissipated by the time I got to the end of the bottle. Clear golden colour. I drunk this in France and I'm not sure that this is the same beer as the export version which, judging from some of the other tasting notes has a much darker colour. No clues on the brewery website. According to the blurb, this "benefits from an exceptional aging period" but no mention of just how long this aging is. Not much of note in the aroma. Smooth and crisp on the palate, but, again, nothing very distinctive. Fairly light mouthfeel. Quite nice but nothing spectacular.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 30, 2003 Clear-golden; big bubbles to slim white rim. Cookies, crystal malts and white candi sugar in the nose. Taste is again quite malty, this time with both honeyish notes, as well as faint grassy hops. Definitely honey retronasal. Rather light palate and mouthfeel. Undercarbonated. I hate these new-style bottles. I wonder if the low carb is a result. To me, Br. Castelain is the North-French equivalent of Br. D'Achouffe here. Became too big and too preofessional to do anything technically wrong, and too big to do anything brilliant. And this is not a real Bière de Garde character anymore. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 21, 2003 Sweet aroma. Malt, honey, light fruity hops. Buttery. Light clear amber with white foamy lacing head. Medium carbonation with medium-light watery body. Bit of sweetness up front, but a nice level of hops that give a dry light bitter character. Fruity finish and pleasant hop after. BroueNeault (157), Montréal, Quebec, Canada

Sweet taste of honey and malt. Has a bitter finish. A pleasant warming beer, but a little too sweet for me. motelpogo (4395), Plzen, Czech Republic
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 7, 2003 i was a bit confused about this one as i'd jotted it down as 'le savoir de saveurs' with tradition du nord in brackets. anyways, a reasonable blonde ale, less sweet than many of its french counterparts, with some almong in the finish. quite mild Earlier Rating: 1/4/2003 Total Score: 2.8 mellow and inoffensive. some peach mango ice cream aroma. vague malty taste with some ginger tartness saving it from being too dull
