Draft sample at KBJ 2009. Poured a orange color with an average fizzy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy spicy tart pumpkin aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy spice and pumpkin sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Good seasonal beer.

Draught at 11th Southern Brewers Festival in Chattanooga. Pours cloudy nutty ruby burnt orange, well like roasted pumpkin flesh, with a quickly disappearing tan head. Pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg) and malt (grain, meal) and yeast (dough) aromas, slightly roased pumpkin notes. Spiced pumpkin malt flavor with a sour acidic hop yeasty finish. Medium bodied and fizzy palate. This is easily my favorite pumpkin ale.

Draft at Barley’s Taproom in Asheville, NC. Poured a clear orange-red color. Head was thin, off white, and left some decent lace behind on the glass. Aroma was spice dominated, mostly cinnamon. There was only a whiff of pumpkin. Dry on the tongue. The flavor was also spice-driven with cinnamon and a dash of black pepper dominating the pumpkin. Mouth feel was on the watery end of the spectrum. Not among my favorite pumpkin beers.

On tap at Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co. This ale should be served with cool whip. Strong pumpkin pie aroma. Orange amber in color. Good cinnamon flavor with a surprising smoothness. I haven’t had a pumpkin ale this good since Adler-brau in Appleton.

Copper Orange, thin tan head. cinnamon, nutmeg and clove aroma, Pumpkin is there, of course, but this more subtle than some other pumpkin beer. More to accompany dessert, not to replace it.

Appearance: Pours a clearish, reddish-brown body with a thin, off-white head. Smell: A fragrant aroma filled with inviting toasted spices, but pretty meak when it comes to the actual pumpkins. Taste: Mild pumpkin flavor that’s lightly sweet. The addition of fresh spices adds a measure of earthy spiciness. Slight hint of lemon near the sweet finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: It’s one of those pumpkin ales that lays emphasis on spices and not pumpkin flavor. Still, though, it is a pleasant Autumntime brew.
