Commercial Description:
Unfiltered in bottle and keg.
Pierre Celis created the original Hoegaarden beer in the early 1960’s. Interbrew-Labatt bought the brand and the brewery in the 1980's. Pierre Celis formed a new brewery in Austin Texas, brewing the same beer but under the brand name Celis White. Miller bought the Celis brewery and the Celis White brand-name in 1996. The brewery closed in 2000. In late 2002 Michigan Brewing bought the Celis White brand from Miller. Brouwerij Van Steenberge is now brewing the original Pierre Celis White under the brand-name Celis White in Europe and Ertveld's Wit in North America.

Hazy unclear pale yellow. Aroma and taste of yeast, wheat & citrus. Little lemon & spice - coriander. Dry slight bitter finish. Funky fresh! . Very pleasant & drinkable. Good Belgium Witbier.

From 2002. I was excited to find this after being introduced to this beer in Texas during college. My disappointment in this was great. The aroma and flavor were dominated by a level of diacteyl rarely encountered in beer, commercial or homebrew. The extreme butterscotch aroma and flavor overpowered the obvious nice formulation of ingredients underneath. I hope this was a batch issue and not a consistency in the Belgian production of this once-great beer.

Draught. Summer, lemon and soap in the aroma, but not in a bad way. A bit more yellow than Hoegarden. Taste of flowers, with a very long finish.

Hazy blond color. A plain wheat, as usual for Belgians it’s quite good, most of all maltier, and the malt is crispy.

Cloudy yellow. Very nice fruity aroma, citrus and a bit coriander. Very wheaty, grainy taste. Much citrus in the flavor too. Overall a very nice white, but it could use a little less citrus.

Muddy pale yellow with big white head. Aroma of banana, apples. A bit thin in palate - otherwise a prime excample of its kind.

Pours opaque and light yelow with a sizeable white head. Smells of grapefruit and pine. Taste is INSANELY citrusy. So much grapefruit taste with lemon mixed in. Hard to taste the wheat grain but it comes through more in the aftertaste with a wheaty flavor finishing off the palate. I don’t usually like wheats that much or belgians but this was nice. There was some yeasty flavor (as noted the wheat flavor at the end was accentuated by a yeast touch) but it wasn’t too much for my tastes and pretty nice.

Cloudy bleak yellow body. Lemon, coriander, light malt. Soft flavour, more fruits en more balanced than Hoegaarden. Nice mouthfeel.
