Commercial Description:
Unfiltered in bottle and keg.
Pierre Celis created the original Hoegaarden beer in the early 1960’s. Interbrew-Labatt bought the brand and the brewery in the 1980's. Pierre Celis formed a new brewery in Austin Texas, brewing the same beer but under the brand name Celis White. Miller bought the Celis brewery and the Celis White brand-name in 1996. The brewery closed in 2000. In late 2002 Michigan Brewing bought the Celis White brand from Miller. Brouwerij Van Steenberge is now brewing the original Pierre Celis White under the brand-name Celis White in Europe and Ertveld's Wit in North America.

From a bottle courtesy of a trade with Erik in Indiana. This poured a hazy light butterscotch yellow with a fat white head and good lacing rings. Nose of banana, coriander, and citrus. Nice clean mouthfeel. Good favor same as nose. A really nice witibier.

A Mes rate. Draught at Lowlander.
I was gobsmacked to discover this remained unrated for us. It was one of our routes in to good beer in general and as a result still holds a fairly special place in my heart. A straight forward but well made wit. Fantastic thirst quencher on a hot day. I won’t rattle on you know the drill.

Pours light, cloudy; good witbier color, though a bit more yellow than most. Medium-sized head of white foam, vanishing in about a minute. Aroma is of malt and wheat, almost bready with a slight acidic tang; flavor is malty, grainy, slightly sweet and sour. Slight aroma of citrus and hops in the finish. Not very complex, but a good beer for refreshment on a hot day.

From tap at De Garre, perfectly served whith a beautiful dark yellow and hazy colour and a beautiful white head lacing nicely. The smell is grainy and coriander, but is a bit at the light side. The taste goes grainy, with some notices of wheat and barley, a light bitter agreeable taste, some touches of lemon included. The aftertaste is light sweet. The overall taste is rather sharp, more than the Hoegaarden, but perfectyl enjoyable. This is a very good, refreshing beer.

I druk the Celis White from tap (and perfectly poured!) in ’café de garre’ in Bruges. Very nice white/yellow colour and nice and stable white head. Smell: coriander. Taste: very refreshing, grassy and sharp, grainy, bitter, lemon.
