| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 23, 2008 Nearly black, tan head, solid lacing and retention. Aroma is smoke, caramel, earth, some darker fruits. Medium bodied, good smoke flavor. Why is this rated so low? shp555 (1691), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Mar 10, 2008 22oz from Bottleworks. Figures that the one time I mail order without checking absolutely every beer’s ratings I end up with a stinker like this. Bit of a gusher, with a dark amber body and quickly frothing head. The aroma is . . . well, let’s just say that if I sampled this blind I’d say this was somebody’s attempt at a sour bruin. On tasting it, I’d modify that to say, bad La Roja knockoff with a gritty dirty dish towel aftertaste. Seriously, a "robust, smoky ale"? My ass. This thing is either badly infected or is just crappy. jimhilt (1691), Bow, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 24, 2008 Pours a one finger cream head that fades quickly leaving no lace. Cloudy ugly, deep amber color. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Smoky malty nose. Flavor is sweet, earthy some smokiness, quite drinkable but mislabeled this is not a scotch ale. $5.62 for a 22oz bottle from Liquid Solutions Oregon City, Or.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 22, 2008 from bevmo. dark brown with a fizzy head. Sweet fruity aroma. Bright lively palate, chocolate and earthy taste, fuity notes, and a dry finish. 5000 (2634), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Bottle: Cola colored, medium sized frothy beige head, few rings of lacing.   Sour barnish/musty nose.   No peat, smoke, ash,
anything you might expect from a Scotch Ale.   I am already worried.   Does have a floral aspect too, oddly enough.   Well, this
one certainly does have a tart flavor, old stale dark pitted fruit as well.   I don’t think that this is what was intended.   Likely
an old bottle, or perhaps even an infection?   Didn’t explode when I opened, so who knows.   Average body and mouthfeel.   Tart
finish, still interesting as I do enjoy tart beers, but as a Scotch Ale this is unexpected.   This one deserves a re-rate.   Oye
vay... I hope their other beers aren’t like this.

| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Dec 29, 2007 22oz bottle. Poured a deep brown with a light red tint and an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of earth, caramel, and I’m getting a weird bubble / sweet tart aroma. Tastes of earth, wood, caramel, and the same weirdness I was getting in the aromas. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 2, 2007 Bottle. Dark mahogony beer with a tan head. Smoky, caramel, sweet malt aroma with a bit of fruitiness. Sweet malt flavor with smoke. Sweetness becomes strangely sacharine. A bit of earthiness. Medium body. Lingering smokey, malty, sweet. I did get over the sweetness and spent the rest of the bottle trying to figure out if it’s infected or not.
