Ruby highlighted black pour, smallish tan head that settles into a wispy ring. First whiff is creme brulee, then vanilla infused earth, all in a matrix of tart cherry pits and rum. The roast character in this stout seems less focused on the usual coffee/chocolate contributions, and playing the lower notes of freshly turned soil. Wet black Minnesota soil. Not that the others don’t play: there is nice chocolate cake aroma and a bit of espresso, but it’s way down deep. Tart rum-soaked cherry flavor, with a gently bitter chocolate and toasted sugar. Bourbon/oak notes in the finish. Fairly thick, though less than I expected, and clean between sips. A bit burly and pleasantly unrefined stout, in the tradition of foreign stouts. Very tasty. Thanks Hezron for the bottle!

Bottle courtesy of CaptainCougar. Aroma of cherry wood and bourbon with a brandy sweetness. Black body with tan head. Has the molasas, bourbon, sweet, cherry flavors. Normal flavors that make these souts so good. Easy on the palate witha sweet cherry taste lingers on palate. Thanks Tom.

GTMW 2006. The beer pours to a murky chocolate body with a creamy tan head. The aroma is bing cherries and chocolate. The flavor is a nicely light tart cherries and chocolate. Pretty well blended with the main component being chocolate and the hints being bing cherries and a very subtle oak bourbon barrel character. Nice creamy palate. Tart with a good texture.

Pours a dark brown with an off-white head. Smells of cherries. Very sweet with aromas of caramel, malts, oak, bourbon, alcohol and a bit of cherries. Full bodied with a nice sticky mouthfeel. Long sweet finish with a mellow warming alcohol sensation. Very nice.

Dark pour with some nice lacing. Aroma is quite complex. A bit woody, cherry, merlot and some roasted malts and coffee. Flavor is sweet, oak, some faint bourbon, lots of cherries and red wine like tannins. A bit of tartness but not overly sour. Roasted malts and coffee with a hint of cherry vanilla at the end. Nice.

Bottle from Pepsican. Thanks dude! Pours almost black with a big bubbly thin tan head. Aroma of bourbon, oak, and tart cherries. Maybe a little roast too. Bourbon, tart cherries, some roast, some more tart cherries, some oak, and some more bourbon make up the flavors of this one. Lots of lingering oak/bourbon. Not hot. I like the tart cherries and how they mix with the bourbon. Nice stuff.

This poured black in color with a thin head that dissipated away quickly. The nose gave off aromas of bourbon, char and some cherries which are primarily hidden. In the mouth this is medium to full-bodied with nice concentration and wonderful balancing carbonation. The palate shows off the cherries much more than the nose. In fact the palate comes off as chocolate covered-bourbon macerated cherries. Yum.
