Smell of malt, cherries, chocoalte, vanilia, sour berries, caramel and some bourbon, but very light. Taste of sour/tart cherries, chocolate, hops, malt, spices(cinamon, nutmeg, pepper), vanilia, oak, and bourbon. Very carbonated but good. Nothing like a Dark Lord but comming from a small brewery, its fine as hell! grimreeser (797), Minnesota, USA

This is it the closer for a day of drinking. What an excellent beer to end on. Pours a thick black with a beige head. Nose is cherry, lightly sour, bourbon, chocolate, oak, vanilla. The nose is loud like the flavor. Chocolate roasted flavors are compiled with bourbon, vanilla, oak, cherry, a lightly tart sourness that seems a bit syruppy (like fake cherry syrup) as I go on. A good beer, but it was much better before it ever met those troublesome cherries. The tangy sourness of the cherries don’t balance well with the bourbon and sweet chocolate flavors. A good beer though none theless. Thanks andrew ... now if I can only sleep in a stinky tent with all of this alcohol in my system. 8/4//7/3/15 =3.7
10/5/08.
Pours a dark black with a beige head that fades to a creamy ring that laces down the glass. Nose is rich of cherries, chocolate, oak, bourbon. Tart cherries in the flavor fight for dominance with chocolate, bourbon, oak. Slight alcohol warmth, but all around a tasty beer. Sometimes cherries don’t work well, but the richness in the flavors blend nicely with the butter rich bourbon. 8/4/7/4/15 = 3.8 shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA

Serving: 12 oz bottles shared by nflmvp. Thank you so much!
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Sour and tart cherry.
Appearance: Murky dark brown.
Flavor: Cherries at first, then it moves to roasted malt with some chocolate and oak flavors.
Palate: Medium body, smooth.
Overall: The cherries work well in this beer and add to the aroma and flavor nicely. However, maybe they should make either Bourbon Barrel Stout or Cherry Stout, but not necessarily Bourbon Barrel Cherry Stout. I think the sour qualities of the cherries kind of overpower and maybe work against the sweetness of the bourbon... pepsican (885), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 16, 2008 Dark brown pour with a fizzy tan head that went away very quickly. Strong bourbon and vanilla aroma with cherries in the background. Flavor is sweet cherry, vanilla, bourbon, roasty malts, oak, and just a touch of funk. Slightly boozy, and bit too sweet. imadeadguy (378), back in NJ!, New Jersey, USA

Aromas consist of burbon, roasted malts, vanilla, and sour cherries. Flavor is right up front with burbon, tart cherry, chocolate and finishes with coffee. I thought this one was somewhat thin for an impy. Flavors are all wonderful and create bliss in your mouth. I need to get a hold of CW other brews. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 8, 2008 Pours a cloudy dark ruby brown with a smallish light tan head and some lacing. Aroma is sweet dark cherries and bourbon, vanilla, caramel malt and more subtle dark fruits. Flavor is sweet and starts with a decent dark caramel maltiness, dark chocolate, bourbon and cherry. Finishes long sweet and spicy. Medium bodied. This one will probably get better with age. Ungstrup (15261), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 7, 2009 Bottled - probably my rating # 15,000 if I include my backlog. A hazy deep red beer with a huge tan head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt, hops, fruit, and berries. The flavor is sweet malty with a light acidic edge, strong notes of fruit, medium notes of wood, and lighter notes of vanilla and alcohol, leading to a slightly tart finish. The alcohol leaves a burn on the tongue. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.
