alexsdad06 (688), Ohio, USA Aug 9, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy of SS winter ’07. Satin Solstice pours dark brown with a medium sized dense tan head with good retention. The aroma is moderately sweet with a tartness that shows up as well. There is also quite a bit of roasted malts, chocolate, and dark fruit and berries. The flavor is roasted malt, light coffee, dark chocolate, and a slight tang. The beer smooths out as it warms (as the name implies). Medium bodied and creamy smooth.
SHANER4 (216), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Oct 29, 2008 12 oz bottle - Poured black with hint of ruby. Aroma is what a stout should smell like, chocolate, roasted almonds, vanilla and alcohol. Flavor is pretty damn good, perfect combination of alcohol, roasted grains, bitter hops and tangy finish. Has to be one of the best Stouts I have had to date and brewery is only 2 hours from my house! DaSilky1 (1667), San Diego, California, USA Oct 27, 2008 Logan’s Stout Tasting: Thick dried fruit and musty chocolate nose with hints of vanilla and bourbon. Tangy/bourbon malty flavors with vanilla. Somewhat of a meaty thing going on as well, and the tang never seems to subside. Pretty one dimensional though. couchand (162), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 24, 2008 Near black, some walnut notes. Creamy thick tan head.
Lightly sweet, fruity nose, some caramel.
Somewhat funky flavor, roasty and bitter, like stale coffee.
Lightly cloying. keoki182 (305), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA Sep 27, 2008 Poured deep black with a thin medium brown lacing of head. Aroma was soft chocolate with a hint of smokiness. The mouthfeel was fairly prickly in carbonation, but this isn’t a complaint seeing as how some find most imp stouts to be too "flat". There was a silkiness in the sip that made me think of many oatmeal stouts. It was silky smooth, but not creamy, if that makes sense. The flavor was roasted cocoa and dark fruits, with a hint of Irish Car Bomb flavor (sweet coffee cream like in Bailey’s, a woodsy bite reminiscent of a nice whiskey). Not nearly as intense as a Bell’s Expedition, but definitely an imperial stout that I’d recommend to anyone. Bockyhorsey (2056), Mesa, Arizona, USA Sep 21, 2008 Rating 2000. Cortesy of mother in law. Good aromas of chcoalate and oatmeal. Black body with dark chocalate head. Good creamy body texture. Chocolate and roasted oats in the flavor. Smooth on the palate with a dry coco aftertaste lingering. Good brew
