Very light aromas. Mostly grains and husk, but there is a minutia of malt and hints of herbal hops. Body is not quite as fizzy as the light. Some corn syrup and grain flavors. Again just a hint of malt. Finish is quite dry, with a touch of grain sweetness and a mildly grassy herb linger. highlandlad (1278), Sydney, Australia
| 1.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/20 | Mar 4, 2008 Another identikit Mexican lager. Nasty aroma of adjuncts, skunk, metal pail and cat piss. Thin uric flavours. A finish that is more sour than bitter. Feeble malts. Too sweet and barely any bitterness. Always remember to add a slice of lime before you pour it down the drain. Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is clear medium yellow.
Aroma is lightly malty (grain, cereal, husks), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a note of DMS.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly husky.
Medium body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation.
A little above the usual Mexi-swill, but the Dark version is definitely the one to pick between the three Mexicali choices. beerledgend (919), Waterloo, Wellington, New Zealand

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 10, 2008 Bottle as Cerveza Mexicali Beer. Clear bottle. First impression was skunk, but that’s wrong. Second impression is like a touch of English ale (say Tanner’s Jack). Third impression is it is something a bit different. Light golden color, but in some light it goes orangey. The white head was impressive, but left immediately. Medium bodied with near fizzy carbonation. The flavor is decent malt. The hop is hard to pin down, but there is an appropriate level of bitter. The aftertaste reminds of the original Near Beer, but arguably better (that’s based on really old memory). There’s even a slight fruit hint in the finish. Slightly spicy hop. It’s not fair to bad mouth this stuff. A decent pale lager. Something like a really light version of Tanners Jack.
