Commercial Description:
Prepared for Golden Tap Awards 2005 at beer bistro. Doug Pengelly of Saint André fame has done the brewing on this "lager brewer’s ale." This lighter-bodied ale has enough of a fresh hoppy finish to please fans of the pale ale style. The Summer Ale is somewhat reminiscent of Hart’s version of Dragon’s Breath.

Medium creamy head, gold amber. Aroma: sweet ale, malty/sugary, cooke-tofee like, light carbonated. Slightly harsh front, a bit raw, light bitterness follows the act. Rather average.

High malt aroma, with some caramel, dark amber, pours a large custard head. Good malt/hops blend. Light bodied, a bit strong. Fair.

Draught at BeerBistro - 2005 Golden Tap Awards. Orange-amber with an off-white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is quite malty, with some tangy hops around the edges. Strong grapefruit in the flavour - very dry and refreshing - with enough earthy malt to keep things in check. Really great effort - I hope their future seasonals live up to this one.

Draught at 2005 Golden Tap Awards at BeerBistro. Pours a clear amber with a large fluffy white head. Aroma is more malt than hops and not very much to my liking, especially for a Bitter. The flavour was much better, very bitter and quite tasty, a nice blend of fresh hops with caramel and spices. Unfortunately, like most C’Est What beers, it’s a little too watery but I still found it quite enjoyable.

Beer Bistro fest. Dark brown, orange hints, fluffy white head. Some malt and hops in aroma. Raw bitter taste with lots of interesting spiciness. Earthy and maple touches. A little soapy as well and watery, which C’est What beers, even ones as good as this or the cask, never can seem to get away from. Thin but balanced. Excellent, great effort.

Hazy amber w/ fluffy finger of white foam. Pleasant citrusy, spicy hop nose. Medium, mildly sticky feel. Flavour starts off malty & fruity then moves toward a spicy hop bitterness. Dry, lingering finish.

Draught. Sampled at 2005 GTA Golden Tap Awards at BeerBistro. A clear deep amber pour with a large mostly white fluffy head. Aroma strongly of hops, some malt, a bit of yeast and a pleasant citrusy hot summer afternoon meadow smell. Taste initially medium malt, a bit of a lemon/orange citrius bite, then hops ... then more hops - ultimately way too sharp with those sharp european hops - Saaz? Too one-dimensional for me to love it - balance it with some more malt and age it a while ... that would be really interesting.
