egajdzis (2963), Terrapin, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 11, 2007 Poured an amber color with a medium sized, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma was musty, earthy, some vanilla, sour cherry, and toffee malts. Taste of cocoa, dried fruits, toffee, toasted dough, more vanilla, and faint alcohol in the finish.
rjulian24 (18), USA Jan 10, 2008 Updated: Feb 11, 2008Just an all around nice beer. Thick and malty with a nice alcoholic bite. A bit of a scotch note with smokey undertones. tomciccateri (447), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Dec 16, 2007 Labeled 7%, pours a dense dark brown with a slight tan head. Big body and big malty flavor. Slight alcohol note. Complexities from Belgian yeast matched well to even dry/sweet overall flavor balance. bu11zeye (3656), Frisco, Texas, USA Nov 7, 2007 (Draught) Pours a mahogany body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of caramel, molasses, cocoa, and toasted bread. Flavor of raisins, banana, brown sugar, and toffee. boboski (1095), USA Sep 16, 2007 Clouded chestnut brown pour with a perfectly retained, creamy light tan head. Thin arc lacing, overall a great appearance. This just smells creamy and succulent. Roasty malt and well extracted every-element, with extremely well-integrated caramel. Notes of honeyed malt, cereal grain, cocoa powder, egg yolk, molasses and mild alcohol. A great(almost a 9) aroma. Mellow baked banana peel and even softer spice, raisins and miscellaneous dark fruit round out the nose. Upon first sip, the realization that this is overattenuated a touch doesn’t deter great enjoyment. This is a great take on a great style. Mild sweetness, very high nuttiness overtake the senses. Bitterness and astringency are low and complimentary. The Belgian yeast element is mild but lovely throughout. The finish is dry, nutty malt and light roast lingering. I would love to have more of this. TheCheeseMan (509), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Sep 16, 2007 Courtesy hopscotch. Deep burnt ochre brown, very little head. Aroma is reodlent of sweet malts, treatcle, plums, some raisins. The flavor is what is to be expected, sweet and rich, with a touch of graininess that seems to work well. Good bottle.
