| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 26, 2007 A cloudy dark red pour resembles a looming stormfront, even in the confines of the glass. No head, though carbonation is evident. The nose is of raspberries, overripe and just slightly tart. Hints of spontaneous fermentation - a light bacterial funk - seep out, along with white vinegar, earthy notes and sugars. The flavor is rather enjoyable, hints of the lambic base revealing themselves much to my delight. The reality of each sip is a raspberry puree enhanced by a slight tartness, unused sugars, more sugars and yeast added at bottling and a lightly acidic core. Finishes closer to some semblance of balance, more tartness squeezing out amongst the powerfully sweet fruit. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, sticky and lightly carbonated, not too far from a less domesticated variety of the style. Not bad, but certainly not worth buying. The appearance is deep red and hazy with a super thin head. The flavor is like the aroma and quite tart. The palate is thin. Overall this is what you would expect from the style.
