Commercial Description:
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

The flavor is strong of sweet cherries - somewhat artificial. The color is an unclear red-brown with next to no head. The flavor is very sweet with a hint of sour sharpness and strong artificial notes of cherries. It ends on a sour cherry note, that lingers. Definatly not a good kriek - the problem with this beer, is that it is added yeast (in a kriek?), sugar, and cherry juice - those three ingredients should be substituted by real cherries

(Bottle 25 cl) Darkisk red with no head to speak off. Sickingly sweet with pretty much none of the acidic, refreshing edges usually found even in commercial krieks. Add to this a tang of cork and you get a beer that has failed almost completely. 220297

25 cL bottle. Pours slight hazy red with a brownish hue, small lacing bobble head with pink colour. Dry cherry aroma. Fruity cherry flavour, medium sweetness. Goes into a decent citric cherry finish, maintaining a lot fruit flavour.

Bottled. Hazy red opaque colour, reddish foay head. Strong sweet cherry aroma. Semibitter cherry flavour with some strawberryish notes. Standard Kriek, but the colour was surprising.
