Commercial Description:
Charleston Brown is made with roasted Belgian and Munich Malts and expertly blended with a touch of toasted dark malt. American and British hops yield a balanced flavor - not too sweet - a very complicated and interesting flavor.

Pours deep brown with medium tan head. Aroma of roasty malt, corn flakes, chocoff, some figs. Tastes roasty malty, with chocoff. Lighter in palate and complexity than the aroma would suggest. Not bad.

12 oz bottle: Lasting light beige head on a ligly hazy mohogany body. Chocolate & light roasty at first, then hints of acidic sourness. Freshly ground pale malt aroma w/ some hints of milky lactic acid. Well balanced & lightly tart from the dark grains...I think! Malty grain flavor w/ some roast & chocolate...No caramel, no hop.. and a bit dry in the finish. Aftertaste is short & malt flavored w/ hints of burnt coffee at the very end. Light body but not watery, smooth, low carbonation. A very drinkable if unexciting beer. Decent flavor but seems a little one dimensional througout in the flavor.

Pours a nice dark brown. Has a small tan head. Aroma is nice and malty. The Flavor is real nice at first but to hoppy of a finish.

Rich dark brown with a tan head. Sweet nutty aroma. Smooth, with roasted malt flavors evened out with a sour-sweet flavor that was a bit suprising. Not much hops, which is how brown ales should be. Not bad, a little weak, but drinkable. I enjoyed their Low Down Brown better.

Bottle: Roast and nutty aroma. Dark transparent reddish brown with a decent off white head with good retention. Flavor is almost all roasty nuttiness with a little sweetness in the background. Roasty stale hopp finish with something in the finish that I can´t pinpoint. It´s not pleasant though.

Malty nose with deep brown color and light brown head. Big hint of roasted malt with very light hops, nice clean finish.

Draught @ the brewery: This was an OK beer. Probably being kept down a bit by the NC 6% law. It pours a chestnut color, with a tinge of ruby to it. Some head. The aroma is pleasant but not too strong. Some notes of malts with a hint of roastiness. The taste is along similar lines, with a hint of nuttiness. Decent and easy to drink.

2nd trade courtesy of Ross and his collection of fine Carolina and southeastern brews. Good flavor, hoppy, malty, full bodied but a little thin for the style. Good beers great tastes a beer that I’d keep around if it were only in my area.
