Commercial Description:
Charleston Brown is made with roasted Belgian and Munich Malts and expertly blended with a touch of toasted dark malt. American and British hops yield a balanced flavor - not too sweet - a very complicated and interesting flavor.

A classic brown ale. Not very experimented but decent. Pretty malty and sweet as it in my opinion should be.

brown color, sweet tasting with a nice hint of hops and malt. a pretty good brown ale, much better than 2.5??? oh well, despite the ratings, its not a bad beer for something brewed in nc.

(bottle) Dark brown with very little head. Sweet malt aroma. Flavor is lightly roasted malt with a hint of sweetness, no hops. Light in body. Only OK.

Kind of watered down. Not much flavor either. A poor brown ale. It seems like they just made this beer to say they have a brown ale in their lineup.

Small fizzy head. Dark, ruby color, clear. Aroma is sweet, malty, and roasty. Flavor is overly sweet and slightly watery. No hops noted at all.

mein gott in himmel, something is deffinately broken here: i was actually starting to admire this beverage of deep chestnut-- and my sample has a decent head-- but then that SMELL sprang up and bit me. christ, get a muzzle for this beast. the "aroma" is a dead ringer for a sweet pickle. ouch. i don't care for sweet pickles. that pretty much deminished my full enjoyment of this beverage-- about like having a sharp wedge of lumber under my thumbnail-- i just couldn't concentrate on the other qualities-- a thin cherry and woody flavor was cautiously noted, but i can't finish it. what were they thinking? about as "complicated and interesting" as an earwig in your oatmeal.

On tap at George Washington Tavern in Concord, NC. I don't think this is as bad as its ratings suggest - a little light overall, but the roasted malt really came through and made for a nice mouthfeel. There are better browns out there, but there are also way worse.

The guy at the bar told me this is like Yuengling Porter. Not even close. Deep brown color. Light malt in the nose and a little tan head. Pretty smooth and some hops was noticeable. A pretty average brown. On tap at Charlotte International Airport.
