Commercial Description:
Charleston Brown is made with roasted Belgian and Munich Malts and expertly blended with a touch of toasted dark malt. American and British hops yield a balanced flavor - not too sweet - a very complicated and interesting flavor.

A below average nut brown ale. Has an odd, sweet after taste. Not up to the standards of a Newcastle or Brooklyn Brown Ale.

They must be messing around with the formula on this one some from what other raters encountered. Mine was very dark, almost porter dark. Ruby brown black in color. Not a whole lot of head. This beer is essentially an ode to chocolate malts. A bit of hops on the finish, but the taste of chocolate malts dominate throughout. Easy to drink, but not spectacular by any means. Nothing wrong, but very average.

Dark brown, has a nice head with decent retention. Aroma is malty, woody. The flavor is not rich, has more of that woodiness with a little brown sugar. Mild bitterness. Mild sweetness. Boring, but not really a bad beer.

Good looking clear brown ale with a good tannish white head. Light mouth feel but ok. Pleasant, lightly malty, floral hops, bitter finish. Nothing to get excited about, but nothing to complain about. Unremarkable local ale. Wouldn't drink it at home but bot bad as an airport beer while connecting in Charlotte.

I found this to be incredibly boring, so much so that i must struggle to write this review. The pour was a dark dark ruby, with some browns in there creating a dark cloudy and TOTALLY headless and little carbonated thing. The aroma is almost all toasty malt with a cherry/chocolate mixed ending. Fairly dry ending, heavy evidence of chocolate near the end. Very very little head, very boring and one dimensional in nature. Nothing spectacular in the taste or aroma to disntinguish is from alcohol and a roasted malt beer. Very light bodied and dull.

Poured with almost no head. Did taste the toasted malt.

12/28/02 Dark brown color with a ruby tint, great creamy head. Mild malty aroma. Plain, some malt, a touch of hops in the finish, but mostly watery and boring, sligthly sours as it warms. Worth drinking, but its not hard to find something beter. rerate 4/28/03: Beter than I had originaly rated it, has some nice slightly sweet creamy malt.

Thin-ass brown with no body and no redeeming quality.
