Commercial Description:
Half Moon Hefe Weizen is an unfiltered beer, naturally cloudy from wheat proteins. The grain in Half Moon Hefe Weizen is half wheat and half barley. Leaving the beer unfiltered retains its character from brewer's yeast & gives vitality to this invigorating ale. Smooth Hallertau hops provide a fantastic balance of subtle hop taste and aroma, giving you the perfect revitalizer to rejuvenate your day or night.

Bottle. Thick layer of sediment at bottom of bottle! Pours headless. Pale auburn slightly light orange color. After swirling bottle, can get some thick milky wheat out. Really one of the most river-bottomy hefes I have encountered, if I haven’t driven that point home yet. Nothing groundbreaking flavor-wise, but obvious breadiness permeates. Slight floral nose. Goes down silky. A notch above average otherwise.

Aroma and color are about right for this style. Citrus taste, heavy malt profile with some light hop accents. Some apple is evident in the ending. Overall... fair but not great.

Clear yellow, white head. Yeasty thick aroma, banana-y. Splinter-wood feel, very yeasty with spices. Nice and hoppy, but grainy aftertaste.

Slightly hazy golden color with a thin white head. Aroma of light banana. Sweet banana flavor with some light hops in the end.

Bottle. Clouded gold. Small but sturdy white head. Nose is yeasty, lightly spiced, light lemon, and banana aromas. Taste is spice, light fruit, soft bubblegum notes, yeast, light citrus and grains. Body is light and leaning towards fizzy. Finishes with more yeast, citrus, and grains.

Bottle: Bright and clear yellow, with a quickly built and quickly dismantled white foam dressing. Broad yeasty banana aroma. Bit of a gristy clove flavor with a soapy feel. The whole mouthfeel is reminiscent of a fizzy macro, but it delivers a very basic HW character in the flavor. Eh ...

Sweet, lemony, banana aromas and a faint spice, not clove, or not clovey enough to distinguish. Airy white head dissipates quickly and leaves the straw/gold hazy brew behind. Flavors are all very light and texture is a bit rough. There are lots of things going on, but none of them is aggressive enough to warrant a return visit.

Draft at WBF in Raleigh. Very foamy, light pale, and cloudy. Has very yeasty aroma. Flavor is flat and a little on the rotten side. Maybe I should give it another try later.
