Glouglouburp (2017), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 10, 2008 In short: Standard but superior Pilsner with assertive hopping.
How: Tap at Brouhaha. Fresh first (and hopefully not last) batch of this beer
The look: Clear Blonde body topped by a small white head
In long: Rich chewy body full of cereals reminiscent of those Czech Republic Sveltes fresh from the tap. Not much in the way of fruity flavours or honey, the body here really feels like a nice cereals mash. Then comes the hops, a truckload of hops. Dry grassy noble hops with a strong dry bitterness. A little dandelion flavour. That heavy tasty dry grassy finish has a flavour of biting in a bird’s nest. Long, long, very long after-taste with a taste of dry yellow grass burnt by the sun. With its relatively low sweetness I’m even tempted to say the beer is too hopped and felt a bit unbalanced. Me complaining about too much hops?!? I must be getting old. Soon I’ll consider U2 as a damn racket. (Rating #1854) Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 28, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A chewy lager with a solid hop dose that manages to stay refreshing.
I like:
Excellent malt extraction provides a full-flavoured cerealic bed with delicious hay-like nuances. Floral, woodsy hops. Very clean, good-looking. The kind of beers I enjoy.
I dislike:
Thick for a lager, this is original and pleasant for the first few sips, but it made me flee from a second glass. I certainly would not call it crisp. I must confess that spalt certainly seems more attractive as a bittering hop than as an aromatic one. The result here makes a relatively refreshing and bitter lager, but not as attractive as it could be with a top aromatic strain. Perhaps if that hop shortage gets over and done with?
