drewbeerme (1840), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 8, 2008 bottle. pours black with creamy tan head. aroma is chocolate, roast, and medicinal. super milk chocolately with astringent black patent. very metallic. watery body. i haven’t had an imperial stout this bad in a while but i think i got a bad bottle.
JCB (1066), Durham, North Carolina, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle from Glouglouburp - thanks, Dany! I have to say that this one was mighty impressive. Maybe I shouldn’t have shared it with those fuckers. Anyways, a huge pour with a lovely, dark head. Thick creamy body, with an invitingly fruity and (natch) heavily lactic aroma. Lots of carbonation for a milk stout, Jim! Roasted bitters in the finish complement rather than clash, and the alcohol is hidden quite well. I want more. Black pour with tan head. Big sweet lactose nose: roasty burnt sugar and roasted marshmallow. Some bitter chocolate and coffee notes. A bit heavily carbonated. This one took a bit to grow on me, but I eventually started to like it quite a bit. emacgee (1132), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Oct 3, 2008 Thanks JCB for sharing. Pours a gorgeous ink black brew with a one to two creamy tan head. The nose is very pungent, sweet, lactic, shows a lot of fruitiness as it warms, molasses, sugary. The flavor shows much more roast and bitterness than the nose lets own. Very prominent bittersweet chocolate and roasty bitter coffee flavor, lightly lactic, burnt. The palate has a strong coffee bitterness and some alcoholic warmth. hellbilly (906), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Sep 29, 2008 bottle by way of glouglouburp... opaque nearly black shade of brown with a fairly large sized frothy soft light brown head. it leaves behind some decent lacing trails and rings. big malty chocolate aroma with notes of cooked cream, lightly charred wood, aspirin astringency, dark fruit, a spicy twang, grass and fresh fennel. the palate is less sweet than most. especially considering the milk aspect... chocolate, cooked dry figs, molasses, a savory quality and a dry woody finish which seems a bit metallic. medium body with a slick mouth feel. there’s more carbonation here than need be (definitely more than most) but it keeps it quite drinkable...
