Aroma is malt, coffee and caramel and chocolate. Taste is deep with malt and coffee and chocolate overtones. Alcohol bite and an aftertaste of creme brule. This is a very nice beer, I don’t know if I’d have it again but I can understand how people would love this. Very complex and lots of great flavours coming through.

Pours an opaque, viscous black with a foamy beige head. Nose has chocolate, spices, cinnamon with some light toast. There’s almost a dustiness to the nose. Flavor is chocolate, toast, nutty. Heavy and thick in the mouth with a lactic feel. Vertical Bacon Strips (894), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2009 Poured out a near black brew, one that seemed to ooze out of the bottle neck producing almost half a glass of foamy medium-dark brown cap that sticks pretty good to the glass with all the messy, silty lacing. Interesting aroma - in the way that has me wondering how much I will like this beer. I didn’t have to search for the aroma in my glass. Milky, medium chocolate of the non bitter variety, mild yet forward roast, good nutty quality, there is an undertone spice here... cinnamon? licorice? and a hint of hops... either way, this spice gives this beers aroma a soft pat on the bottom that it needs to keep from being boring. After sneaking a taste I realized that this beer doesn’t match bluesy Zeppelin one bit. Tons of chocolate on the first taste, a creamy milk chocolate, one that was made with an extra squirt of syrup, large roasted malts (ones that kind of remind me of a sweet bock I had recently), dark fruit, a hint.. maybe a hint of coffee. Goes back smooth, minor carbonation, pretty damn thick stuff, leaves a long lingering aftertaste of burnt sugar. The bitterness is amazingly faint. More fruit and toffee show up near the bottom of my glass. Never noticed the 9%. I don’t see ever buying this again as this type of flavour comes across too sweet for my liking. argo0 (6951), Washington DC, USA

Black body with a modest dark tan head. 4+ Aroma is interesting, with an odd lactic note accenting the roasty character. 6+ Flavour is similar, roasty dry malt, sweet dark malt base, lingering bitterness in the finish and a light tangy bite/undertone. 7+ Smooth average to medium bodied palate. 3+ Pretty solid stout. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 8, 2009 Rich and creamy feel, you can really notice the lactose in this. Has a chocolate, roasty, nutty flavor and aroma, but is quite boozy. The palate is scattered all over the place, very unbalanced. Spab (294), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 8, 2009 Bottle at Volo. Pours slightly brownish black with decent tan head. Nose of light fruit, roast and slight alcohol. Flavour is similar, if a little roastier. Light bitterness to go with roastiness in finish. Masks the 9% well. Pretty good.
