The aroma is lightly toasty/roasty with some off putting, but thankfully very muted tart notes. Some low key chocolate/coffee and smoky notes. The body is a very dark brown, nearly black and holds a small mocha head. Roasty, toasted honey almond-esque flavor. Maybe even some hazelnut even a hint of cinnamon along with milk chocolate, but nothing darker roasted like cofee really appears. Odd, but tasty in its way.

Pours dark dark brown, certainly can’t see through it, with infra red edges and meek looking mocha brown head. The aroma is mild with notes of roasty malts, earthiness and maybe hints of smoke. The flavor is a mixture of roasted malts, burnt malts, chocolate malts and some pine hops. Midway and to the finish the chocolate richness dwells and gives one an adequate chance to ponder it as a stream of creamy caramel sweetness cuts slowly through. A mild pine hop bitterness persists creating nice balance to the beer. Very nice offering.

Draft... Pitch black brew with a small, creamy, khaki-colored head. So-so retention. Served way too cold, I’m having a hard time pulling any aroma from the glass. Finally, as it warms, restrained notes of chocolate begin to evolve and dance about. Medium-bodied and thin with middle-of-the-road carbonation. Flavor leans pleasantly toward the bitter side of balance, but is a touch bland. Coffee grounds and cocoa powder. Very low, if any, sweetness. Crisp, moderately bitter finish.

A dark brown almost black pour with a light tan head. Toasted malt and coffee on the nose. Very coffeeish flavor with a nice finishing bitter. Good palate and carbonation. Overall decent porter with a bit of a bitter. Doesn’t meet the spec’s that they were shooting for according to their write up, but still decent.
