Ernest (4179), Boulder, Colorado, USA Feb 26, 2007 Bottle. No head (still). Body is clear light yellow. Aroma is lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of flowers, unripe nectarine, lime zest, gum, honey, alcohol, hint of wood. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic. Medium body, watery texture, flat carbonation, lightly astringent, lightly to moderately alcoholic. This is Lorane’s standard mead, a semi-sweet one by my reckoning. Lighter in color and body than the Vandal Gold, but otherwise fairly similar in sweetness level and acidity (and tannins)...maybe a bit better balanced here. Slightly more delicate/floral aroma, but complex and attractive (the alcohol profile hints at fusels, but it’s mostly clean). Good stuff, but not quite in the realm of, say, Medovina.
