Grassy, herbal aromas. Earthy, slightly funky fresh hop flavors. A little caramel malt working in the background but it needs to be turned way up to give this a little more character.

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 6, 2009 On tap at Pizza/Birreria Paradisio. Pours a hazy orange amber with a small white head. Earthy pine with a little bit of citrus behind it. Big earthy hop flavors, medium bodied with a nice thick malt backbone. Finishes with a strong lingering grapefruit bitterness. lamas (718), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 6, 2009 22 oz. bottle. "First Growth". Pours a murky rust color with a smallish sandy head on top. An aroma of juicy oranges, rinds, caramel, mild pine, and some wet cardboard. Medium-bodied. The flavor starts with some toasty caramel and mild earthiness. Oranges, rinds, and a touch of grapefruits follow. There is an undercurrent of biscuitiness throughout. An IPA that definitely leans toward the maltier side. biznizness (937), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Draft at Brickskeller in DC. Very underwhelming. Muddy aroma, muddy flavor, where are all the hops? Take a big pass on this one. sloth (1677), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Small offwhite head, retention is fair, lacing is decent. Hazy orange body. Faint nose of malts, grass, very limited hops. Body is lightly medium, good carbonation level, lightly oily on the palate. Lightly sweet malts, light breadyness, some soapy notes and their might be some piney notes hidden in there. Dry somewhat musty finish. Fresh Hop IPA? Nahhhhh. Fairly disappointing for Rogue. Not even a decent Amber. eaglefan538 (2368), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 6, 2009 Bottle from SL and wow, not a rebadge (thx, Robert!). Rating this as an amber ale. The appearance was full amber with a generous steady frothy head that laced the whole way down. The aroma was caramel, pine hops, earthy notes. The flavor was caramel, oranges, pine hops, earthy elements, spicey hops, some fruity malt character, toasted notes. Mouthfeel was quite full, definitely malt-biased, a touch of sticky. A full amber ale, hopped, but more malty than hoppy. Decent. KnN (740), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA

Aroma is subtly hops with a nice quiet malt backbone. really well balanced. Flavor is similar with some very clean hop notes and a good malt support. Really clean smooth easy drinking beer with some nice "greeness" at the edges. Tasty. cstuartj (319), Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Gold/amber in color with a dense thin layer of head that laces well. Nose is mild, hops, and pine, not very strong. A bit subdued on the bitterness flavour, hops are nice and it’s clean start to end. tastybeer (79), Washington DC, USA
