Deep brown amber beer with a thick sticky white/yellow head. Aroma is quite sweet and chewy. Light brown sugar, caramel and butterscotch. Very sticky and chewy. It’s got some off-flavours initially, but these actually dissipate as the beer warms up. Not bad, really. Rciesla (3880), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 25, 2009 Tap at Barcade. Pours a nice deep ruby brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is nicely sweet- brown sugar, toffee, ligth nutty, caramel, hints of leather and slight herbs. Flavor starts off a touch phenolic with some herbs but gets real nice big and sweet as it warms. Gets a bit smoother as it warms too. This was pretty good overall- especially for Chelsea. blipp (1751), Newark, New Jersey, USA

Toasty and sweet malts in the aroma, with a hint of sweet toffee. The flavor has a great balance of toast and sweetness, with coffee, toffee, and toasted bread. Really good, much better than I expected. Trev (894), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 18, 2009 Cask at Brazen Head. Thrilled to see this one re-released. Don’t know if the recipe is significantly different. Primarily chocolate in the aroma, with smoky and earthy notes. Flavor of toasted grains, caramel, and a chocolate sweetness of a tootsie roll character running throughout. Some smoky hints, but more of a toasty/roast variety. Pretty decent. Chelsea casks, in my experience, have often been well put together. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA

Smells like molasses, caramel and toffee. I liked the currant in the taste along with the caramel and scotch. However it was not exciting. Same deal with the palate. The palate was a bit watery. I still liked it though. MullMan (1086), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA
