Growler fill at New Beer Distributers. Deep brown amber beer with a thick sticky white/yellow head. Aroma is quite sweet and chewy. Light brown sugar, caramel and butterscotch. Very sticky and chewy. It’s got some off-flavours initially, but these actually dissipate as the beer warms up. Not bad, really.

Draft at Barcade. Pours a mahogany body with an off white head. Dry malty body salt, and sugar. Some light nut and roasted malt. Thin body with the finish of salty toffee.

Tap at Barcade. Pours a nice deep ruby brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is nicely sweet- brown sugar, toffee, ligth nutty, caramel, hints of leather and slight herbs. Flavor starts off a touch phenolic with some herbs but gets real nice big and sweet as it warms. Gets a bit smoother as it warms too. This was pretty good overall- especially for Chelsea.

Cask at Ginger Man in NYC. Pours deep ruby brown with a beige head. Toasty and sweet malts in the aroma, with a hint of sweet toffee. The flavor has a great balance of toast and sweetness, with coffee, toffee, and toasted bread. Really good, much better than I expected.

Cask at Brazen Head. Thrilled to see this one re-released. Don’t know if the recipe is significantly different. Primarily chocolate in the aroma, with smoky and earthy notes. Flavor of toasted grains, caramel, and a chocolate sweetness of a tootsie roll character running throughout. Some smoky hints, but more of a toasty/roast variety. Pretty decent. Chelsea casks, in my experience, have often been well put together.

Poured dark amber with a creamy tan head. Good retention. Smells like molasses, caramel and toffee. I liked the currant in the taste along with the caramel and scotch. However it was not exciting. Same deal with the palate. The palate was a bit watery. I still liked it though.
