Muddy, dark nut brown color, creamy brown head. Chocolately and nutty nose. Light palate - brown ale -like light chocolaty malty flavor with some woody hoppyness in the finish. A bit plain, but drinkable. JoeMcPhee (3815), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jan 30, 2008 Tap at Barcade. Dark brown cloudy beer with a thick off-white head. Very persistent. The aroma is very unusual... lots of soft coffeeish character over heavy husky roasted malt. No real roasty bitterness, just a pronounced roasted barley aroma over some soft carmel base malts. Coffee and bitter chocolate. It seems like a whole load of carafa malts were used to get such a prominent roasted character without any bitterness or astringency. Flavour is quite nice, but completely unlike any other brown ale I’ve ever had... dark crystal, a bit of roasted grainy character that I kind of like. It seems quite rustic, but it’s still balanced. A very unusual take on the style... and for a style that’s usualy so boring, this is a good thing. sheatripper (826), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jan 22, 2008 Cask at Brazen Head. Gloriously murky brown with a beige head. Aroma kind of like a sugar daddy pop or milk duds--buttery caramel with a touch of milk chocolate. Flavor of nutty and toasty malts, caramel, light chocolate, with some ’butterscotchiness’ which could be a bit of a defect, but otherwise forgiveable given the fact that it’s a cask ale. Almost there. alexanderj (1342), San Diego, California, USA Jan 17, 2008 On cask at the Blind Tiger with golubj; hope he entered it right. Color was nice; looked like caramel. Not much head. Aroma was light, but better than the flavor. Some nuttiness and caramel. Flavor was not assertive enought, even for the style. Palate was a bit off as well. Overall this was not a great version of the style. golubj (1036), Redwood City, California, USA Jan 17, 2008 Cask at the Blind Tiger. Pour is muddy orange brown with no head (as expected). The aroma is sort of faint, but definitely peanuts and a little caramel malt. The flavor has a little nuttiness also, but the palate is watery and the malt is almost non-existent. Nice appearance / aroma, but bad taste.
