PorterPounder (2827), Tallahassee, Florida, USA May 27, 2006 Killearn Liquors, Tallahassee, Fl - 500 ml bottle. Dark copper pour, crisp white head - good bubble action. Whiff of mollasses and brown sugar in the aroma. Flavor is sweet and malty with some cramel notes, molasses and candied sugar. Mouthfeel is thick enough. Pleasantly surprised. Aurelius (2469), Tallahassee, Florida, USA May 12, 2006 Updated: May 13, 2006Not sure if this is exactly the same beer - there’s precious little about this brew on the web. This was labeled ’Czech Standard Velvet Beer’ and came in a brown bottle with a red label and was billed as having a 3.<!-- u -->8<!-- /u -->% ABV. Sweet, nutty malt aroma. Woody bronze color with a fairly large off-white head. Nice red foil label. Sweet, astringent, some cocoa, fadeaway woody bittering. Medium mouth. Overall I’d say it was metallic and bocky-tasting. MoritzF (3865), Ruhrpott, Germany Jun 17, 2005 (bottle) Dark chestnut brown colour with a ruby shine and a medium foamy tanned head. Malty aroma with toasted elements and caramel. Medium sweet flavour of dark malts, medium bodied. Initially toastmalty taste with caramel and dried plums, short and slightly sweet finish. Could have had a bit more alcohol. The strange thing is that the bottle had a crown cap with the writing “Bakalar 1454” on it, which normally indicates a brew of the Pivovar Rakovnik in the Czech Republic !!?
