dwyerpg (2519), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jan 3, 2007 Aroma is ok. There is almost no head, a bad sign. The flavor has all the spices you’d expect right up front, but it finishes off flat, like I was worrying about from the head. Overall, has the makings of a good dubbel, but could use some work. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Apr 21, 2006 Dark brown chestnut beer, no head; Lactic character with lots of fruitiness and very estery. Flavourful, sweet and dark malts with perfumed and fruity notes. Slick MF, smooth and even voluptuous. Very good dubbel, even when style requirements would have it more bitter. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Apr 14, 2006 Draught at the brewpub Red to dark amber color; creamy head. Good mouthfeel, soft Ale with sweet malt, fruity yeast. Not a dubbel, not complex but enjoyable. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 4, 2005 Pour is slightly hazy brown with thin tan head...smell is great with nice earth fruits, yeast, vanilla, yum...everything is lost after the taste...thin watery earthfruits, some yeast... elektrogeist (158), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Feb 16, 2005 A nice attempt at a belgian by this brewery, but still missing something found in great authentic belgian ales. Still worth a try if you’re in the neighborhood however, it still has a very good belgian-esque flavor though not as complex. bitter (1137), Henderson, Nevada, USA Aug 16, 2004 on tap brewpub:
served with slight brown haze and little tan head that was gone quickly. asked the abv 7.6% which is hidden although not that strong. spice and belgium yeast nose. some nice dubbel notes of sweetness, plumes, raisins.
not very complex more one demensional. however, easy to drink with nice flavors. quite good. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Jul 15, 2004 Sampled at the brewery. Murky dark brown with a tan head. Solid, thick body, huge smoked banana presence, a little cloves and chive/oregano-like spices. Very fresh and spicy, a little alcohol kick underneath. Well-made, though really resembling another New Belgium Abbey clone... hmmmm. lemonlovr (187), Lockport, Illinois, USA Oct 1, 2003 Had this at the 2003 GABF. I am a big Abbey Dubbel fan but this beer just doesn't cut it. Weak aroma, weak flavor, amber color, boring palate. Try New Belgium Abbey if you're looking for a good representation of the style.
