Commercial Description:
Black Star is CBC’s version of an Irish-style dry stout. Our nitrogen injected stout has a rich roasted malt flavor and is dark in color. Black Star is lightly hopped so that it coincides with the gentle bitterness created by the roasted barley. The finish is smooth, silky and creamy.

Black with light ruby edges. Creamy tan head. Pleasant coffee like roasty aroma. Taste is friendly and similar to creamed coffee and roasty malt. Light roast lingers in the finish, not much bitterness, but again a very thin body detracts majorly from this beer and keeps it from being recommendable.

On nitro at the brewpub. Nice black pour with tight tan head. Not much aroma though. Some coffee flavor and some burnt malt too. Just OK

Sampler tray. Near-black brown with a tan ring of a head. Low aroma of earthy char. Chocolate, coffee, ash, smooth mouthfeel, bitter finish. A nice stout.

On tap at Chicago’s in Vegas. Pour was dry stout-lilke, dark deep brown-black, slow developing nitrogen-induced. Lacing was stellar, light rings. Aroma was roasted barley, some metallic type notes. The flavor was roasted malts, touch of bitterness from the same, metallic finish with some fruity hints. The metallic aspects were a turnoff, would rather have a Guinness... or, um, a completely different beer. Mouthfeel wasn’t full enough.

This draft brew from the brewery poured a head of foamy finely sized bubbles that was mostly lasting and left behind a dark ruby red brown colored body and a good lacing. The mild aroma was malty. The thin flavor contained notes of semi-sweet dark malt and mild malt.

On tap at the brewpub in Vegas. Thick, black tar colored pour with a thick viscous mocha colored head with excellent lacing. Has a slightly winey aroma with a wee bit of dirt. Thick, creamy mouthful, coats your mouth. Strong coffee notes in the flavor, some trailing chocolate, decent bitterness. Very good brewpub stout. Best of my session here at Chicago.
