fluffy (229), Florida, USA Jun 21, 2009 pours cloudy amber red with a thick lacy head. aroma is somewhat citrusy and spicy. flavor is malty and heavy on alcohol, with some brown fruit notes. aftertaste has a whiskey-like burn. not bad, but the red and especially the blue Chimay is better. hirigalzkar (550), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 21, 2009 Bottle. Perfectly nice tripel! Yeasty, spicy and fruity (orange) with a light hoppy bitterness in the finish, Maddog (231), Kettering, Ohio, USA Jun 21, 2009 Had on draft at the Dilly Deli. This tripel had little or no aroma surpisingly, especially compared with the Tripel Karmeliet I had the night before. It was smooth, easy drinking tripel with some spicy dryness, fruity, malty sweetness and some yeast. A tad on the cloudy side, this is a good tripel, but not as good as Tripel Karmeliet. HOPSHUNTER (376), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 20, 2009 Draft at Mr. Dunderbaks. Poured a light amber color with a frothy off-white head. Nose is caramel, yeast, banana, spice and some phenols. Medium bodied, somewhat soft carbonation. Flavor is caramel malt with notes of fruit and spice with a mild bitterness. Finishes dry. kevd193213 (477), Hope Valley, Rhode Island, USA Jun 19, 2009 750 mL bottle. Hazy golden pour with a thick frothy head. Aroma of hops, pepper and yeast. Great taste of yeast, bananas, spices, bread with a slightly sharp bitter hoppy finish. DeanF (285), Paris, France Jun 19, 2009 In my opinion Chimay’s finest. Soft complexity of flavours in the nose, and taste, wonderful aroma. No overwhelming alcohol. Aroma is citrusy, some orange peels. Taste is soft orange, a bit of barley. Great mouthfeel. Great marriage of everything. You can drink tihs forever, and it’s easily available. Great stuff. danielst (130), Vienna, Austria Jun 18, 2009 Golden-orange colour with a fine fluffy white head. Mellow citrus aroma, with esters, spices and herbal hoppiness. Creamy, full mouthfeel with a slightly alcoholic and bitter, yet balanced finish. The flavour is dominated by maltiness and "burny" yeast (how do you describe that?). Really not impressive considering the flavour and the palate, this has too much of an average (or marginally above-average) strong wheat beer which I can’t appreciate. DigitalMan (113), Idaho, USA Jun 17, 2009 Updated: Jul 16, 2009New rating. Last bottle was off. Hazy light orange with a little redness and big white head. Aroma is clean, but with a hint of sourness. Flavor is bold, spicy, alcohol presence. Feel is smooth and warming.
