TearsforBeers (171), Ohio, USA Jan 17, 2009 Pours light yellow amber with off white head and good lacing The aroma is light on malt, with notes of caramel and hay. I notice some light flowery hoppiness, yeast smells of dough, barnyard, and cheese. Notes of bubblegum, clove, pear, wine, coriander, vinegar, and Tripel phenols come through. The flavor is classic Tripel, but is a bit harsher in its phenols than some others. Overall, a good Tripel, but it’s a bit more phenolic than I prefer. OHscar (16), , Sweden Jan 17, 2009 From tap. My first trappist beer and I really liked it. Really strong but still smooth. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jan 14, 2009 I have greatly underestimated this line of beers. This is a full bodied, chewy malt, spicey, citrusy, delicious drink. Pours a dark orange, a little murky, with some big white foam for a head. Aroma is pungent spice of clove and pepper. Flavor dominated by the malt body, chewy grain, and bread. Finish is a bit funky, musty, and earthy. There is some citrus up front that fades into the bread, spice, and funk that is the main character of the beer. Tasty and complex. Viper666 (614), Greenfield Park, Quebec, Canada Jan 14, 2009 Bouteille 750ml.
VitaminR (422), Colorado, USA Jan 13, 2009 Barnyard spice and sweet clove. Slight hazy gold, foamy head with good lacing. Apricot sweet with liquorice clove, noticeable bitterness, well-balanced. Big carbonation, full body, spicy fruit, with a late alcohol burn. Deep and rich, good balance, drinks nicely, maybe a little hot. leeburg (147), Juneau, Alaska, USA Jan 13, 2009 The first "good" beer I ever had, and this is the first I’ve tried it again since. Decent look, slightly hazy yellow with average retention and lacing. Pleasant aromas of flowers, yeast, bananas, other fruits. Quite sweet but not cloying, more banana, creamy, a touch of bitterness, finishing with a metallic (but not as much so as Orval), clean balance. spanky167 (7), , Virginia, USA does not count Jan 12, 2009 What a beer! I’m new at beer tasting. I just started to expand and try new things. My first belgian to the best of my knowledge. Only negative is I wish i made more money so i could buy more of it. Belgian is my new fav. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jan 8, 2009 Pours a glowing orange golden with generous amount of floaties and big sudsy frothy white head. Nice bright floral fruity aroma, some apples, candied orange, bananas and a touch of vanilla. First taste is bitter, off-dry, metallic, yeasty with subtle fruit. Finishes malty with notes of banana. Medium bodied , slightly sticky, with lots of fine sharp fizzy carbonation. Sweetens up quite a bit as I continue to drink.
