KyotoLefty (1370), Kyoto, Japan Jul 4, 2009 Draught at Q-Brick in Osaka. Very good hops, for both aroma and bitterness. Big, long bitter finish. Yeasty, fruity nose, with biscuity malt. Smooth, full, and mellow flavor with a touch of creaminess. Lovely, with better hops than the bottled version.
joe19612 (673), camberley, Surrey, England Jul 3, 2009 Bottle. Very nice and fruity with a nice light copper body and a decent sized head, really nice and smooth to drink. MereLikesBeer (153), Royal Oak, Michigan, USA Jul 2, 2009 I had this on tap as part of a "Belgian Flight" at Ashleys in Ann Arbor, MI with my friend BeerBaron617. It was a nice golden color with virtually no head. As a result of the wrong glassware (small 6 oz. glasses) I think the aroma was a bit null... However taste was all there. It was a bit musty with a lot of banana flavor. It had a lot of carbonation and a light fruity taste. I will definitely check this out again. Listigovers (96), Ontario, Canada Jul 1, 2009 Updated: Jul 17, 2009Mmmmmm! Very spicy, reminds me a lot of a slightly less yeasty La Fin Du Monde (which was in fact the first "good" beer I ever had.) It tingles the inside of my mouth after swallowing. Slightly harsh on the tongue at first, maybe from the alcohol? However, it doesn’t taste boozy at all. Very dry finish. Quite good overall, haven’t had the Blue yet, but worlds ahead of the Red. alebrewer (121), Mentor, Ohio, USA Jun 26, 2009 Bottle.
I has this beer chilled as per Chimay’s serving instructions. Color and head were nice, but aroma had nothing. Sweetish malts, but no fruitiness. Perhaps an old bottle? Beer was good, more bitter than the Red. Alcholic strength not detectable.
berkshirejohn (1759), Bracknell, Berkshire, England Jun 25, 2009 33cl bottle from Wine Company, Slough.<./I> Slightly hazy amber with a loose off-white head; fresh aroma of hops and cinnamon, lightly carbonated; rich, buttery texture, sweet raisin and caramel malt flavours with some warming spice and alcohol to finish. Very pleasant. Boystout (900), Chisinau, Moldova Jun 24, 2009 Bottle 0.33 l. Amber hazy colour, strong gigantic white head. Very yeasty and hoppy aroma & palate with notes of bananas, oranges, apples and spices. delnoche (210), Germany Jun 22, 2009 33cl bottle poured into a Chimay Trappist glass. Cloudy copper with two finger creamy off-white head. Aroma is bubblegum and alcohol. Flavor is predominantly bitter hops and alcohol with slight bubblegum. High carbonation. Finish is warming alcohol. Pretty good but not the best example of a tripel by far.
