Aroma of sweet malt, spice and oranges. Flavour was cloyingly sweet with apricots, and some hops in the finish. Good but there are much better tripels out there. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA

Hazy, orange light brown body with a long-lasting creamy white head. Dry and fruity orange flavour initially with a sweet malty aftertaste. Medium body left a strange alcoholic kick in the last sip. Vaguely reminiscent of a candy from childhood. tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 18, 2005 Bottle, Volo, served in a Chimay Goblet (or whatever you want to call it). Golden brown pour. Big bubbly white head, frothy, but it did dissipate quickly. Looks like Orval! Strong spice aroma, some alcohol present as well. Strong sharp citrus taste. Thin to medium mouthfeel. Strong alcohol in taste, especially as it warms. It doesn’t look it, but this feels very carbonated - almost too much, detracts from the flavour. Flavour is certainly more one dimensional than the Blue. There is a roof of your mouth spiciness to this that I didn’t quite care for. Nice to sip, as I did reading a book on the patio, but just not as well rounded or flavourful as the Blue or to a lesser extend, the Red. Pailhead (2605), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 27, 2004 Updated: Dec 30, 2008Bottle: Aroma is fruity, slight alcohol, and a little hoppy. Pours a nice transparent gold with a large white head with great retention. Very nice lacing. Some very small sediment floating around. Flavor is fruity with a slight bitter finish. Leaves a short sweet aftertaste. Some alcohol taste but nothing overbearing. A very nice balance. Excellent beer. (7-4-8-4-18)
Bottle (33cL): Re-rate...Really nice floral aroma with some moderate spiciness and faint apple. It pours a hazy orange with lots of sediment and a moderate yellow-tinged white creamy head with very good retention. The lacing really clings and coats the glass. The flavor starts lightly fruity with apples, raisins, citrus, and yeast. The finish is a combination of moderate spiciness, pepper, and moderate floral hops. Medium bodied with lively, but soft, carbonation. I was expecting my Chimay re-rates to all go down. This was even better than I remembered and actually went up. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 27, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clearish, orangey body with a large, pillowy, white head. Nice layering of lace on the way down.
Smell: Sweet-smelling, lightly toasted malts with a heavy addition of honey as well as caramel candy and notes of dried fruits and yeast.
Taste: Light caramel, orange blossom honey, and candi sugar envelop gently toasted malts. Dash of apricot juice. Pinch of spice. Mild hop character and accompanying bitterness. Subtle sour yeastiness. Warming alcohol presence and small bready hints on the drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Well carbonated.
Drinkability: Far better than even I had remembered. An enjoyable tripel -- quite drinkable, interesting, and readily available. 1FastSTi (2580), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
