Commercial Description:
Chimay Blanche (White), with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz and John White

[bottle] Very hazy golden color with good carbonation and a thick white head. Has a mixed nose. Some sweet mixed with hops and yeast. Very potent flavor of yeast and a little fruit undertone. Mouthfeel is a little harsh at the beginning but slowly gives way to a silky finish.

Huge head out of the bottle, although I think that was a function of the stem ware I poured it into. Deep golden color with a nice spicey nose. Lots of clove/coriander spice flavor with apple and orange tastes to balance it out. Bitter orange peel in the finish. I remember liking this beer more, but still a great beer.

Huge fluffy white head: Bread-like texture. Hazy golden. Looks beautiful in matching Chimay trappist glass. Smooth flavour, alcohol pushes through a little bit. Strong yeast presence, malty, and spicey.

Huge rocky white head, lasting with perfect laces. Misty and spritzy orange body. Sweet citrus, yellow apples and hayish hops in the aroma. Clean and fresh taste; dry malts, mild and noble bittering hops, weak but pleasant fruitiness. Medium -bodied. Crisp and dry mouthfeel. This beer was one of my first Belgians ever tasted. Ooh, it’s so nice... reliable, and very enjoyable.

A "Trappist?" Please. Although this is the best of the three, it still has that dull/lifeless/thin mouthfeeel to match the bland malt flavprs. Fruity esters are its saving grace.

Nominally in the tripel style, but so tart as to be quite different than most other tripels I've tried. Aroma was pungent with green apples and fresh bread dough. Copper-tinted yellow, fairly cloudy with suspended yeast, heavily carbonated with large foamy head, and thick heavy lace clinging all the way down the glass. Head remained in bottom of glass. Flavor is initially tart with more green apples, and a yeasty sourdough presence. Finish is quite dry. Like others of its style, this beer works well at a variety of temps. When on the cold side, it has a tart refreshing crispness. I prefer less cool, more at cellar temps, where the light sweetness comes through, balancing the tartness.
