Commercial Description:
Chimay Blanche (White), with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz and John White

33 cl. bottle. Warm golden with a nice and lasting head. The aroma has notes of yeast, citrus and alcohol. The mouthfeel is full and prickly. The flavour has notes of alcohol, a lot of citrus, malt, sweetness and yeast. I by far prefer Tripel Karmeliet, or from Maredsous or Westmalle.

Golden amber colour with a nice white head. Aroma of malt and fruity citrus. Flavour has a good fruitiness, toasted maltiness, good hoppiness and some bitterness in the end.

a firm, creamy, long-lasting head. Strong aroma of hops and citrus. Also hops and citrus in the dry taste, combined with a slight tartness. Long hopbitter finish. A real, complex, trappist ale, maltier and easier to drink than Orval and Westmalle tripel. Re-rate from tap, Café de Nieuwe Roos Ootmarsum: I’ve boosted the rating from 3.8 to 4.3. Sweeter than the bottled version, almost honeyish, but with the raw hoppiness and the long lingering hoppy finish. Maybe the bottled version is a bit more complex, but the tap version has a much more appealing taste.

A Mes rate: Tap @ PBF. A freebie from my good old pal Gustien at the trappist tent. What a great guy! Ok I will not rattle on about this one. People will do it much more justice than me. Great all rounder. Touch of the Orvals about it but only very slight. LLLLLLLLLLLLLLONG and excelent finish. A great tripel.

Pale orange golden colour with good white head. Caramel and fruit in the aroma. Quite hoppy and vinious but still fruity sweet.

Chimay has been one of my staple beers for a few years now - cheaper and easy to get in PA. 11.2 oz bottle. Poured a medium hazy amber color with a large tanish head. Fruity, citric and yeasty aromas and tastes with light spices. Peppery/spice finish. Fizzy body.

750mL: Golden orange hue, long-lasting 1cm white head, light yeast deposit. Very dry aroma with far less events happening than moinette blonde. Light alcohol touch provides a rather heating character, very herbal, moderately hoppy, grassy. Decent honeyish malt base on the tongue though it fades into an extremely dry finish. This wants to be westmalle tripel a bit too much for its own good, but it doesn’t even come close in the mouthfeel department where this one seems a bit overcarbonated, bubbly even and medium bodied at most. It certainly has an irony quality to it, or at least very mineralic, which I sometimes appreciate, but it didn’t seem to fit with the alcohol in here. Finish is hoppy, salty. Decent take on the style.
