Commercial Description:
Chimay Blanche (White), with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz and John White

330 ml bottle. Amber coloured. Almost clear, but this one has a lot of smaller floaties. Served a bit carelessly by the bartender. A small boring white head forming small fine-laced islands. Vanilla and pear aroma. Distant alcohol in the nose. Quite characteristic with regards to the rum and vanilla. Not sure if there is something wrong with it, but it doesn’t quite feel right. It could be the floaties that cause the odd flavours. I haven’t had the the white in a long time, so I can’t tell. Quite high in carbonation and degasses as soon as it enters the tongue. Mellow round hop bitterness in the finish. The body is thin, but packs a good dose of sugar, hops and flavour.

330 ml bottle - thanks to matt7215 for the trade; pours hazy, burnt orange; frothy white head lingers; floral aromas of spice, colander; raw and sharp; light and bitter; a little fizzy with sharp carbonation; texture leaves something to be desired; pretty nice overall

Hazy golden colour with white, stable and foamy head. Aroma has some spices and flowers. Flavour is very hoppy, making it dry and bitter. Pine flavours. Lots of carbonation. Too bitter for me, looks and smells good though.

[At Dexter Jazzhouse to Cæcilie Norby in 2004.] An acidic beer with lots of fresh hoppy notes, but too much for me. Maybe it’s better in some years, when I’m used to the triple-style.

Bottle. By far my favorite Chimay. Nicely balanced aroma of spicy hops/yeast and sweet malt. Not too overpowering in the dusty/dry yeast category. Some spice (clove and cinnamon), hops (grass) and malt (honey and white grapes). Pours a nice looking hazy copper/orange with a big foamy white head leaving decent lacing. Hops, yeast and malt all play nicely on the tongue. A touch of honey sweetness, yeast spiciness and grassy hops. Medium bodied with decent carbonation.

On tap at the club on Halloween while I was dressed like a guido. I should have been drinking Heinekens and jager bombs, I know, but f*ck it, I wanted something good. Hazy golden color with a creamy white head and great lacing. Aroma is Belgian yeast, wheat, pale malt, and some spices. Very yeasty taste with some citrus notes, pale malt, wheat, muscat grapes, and mild hop character. Medium palate with soft carbonation that is befitting of the style. Overall one of the best tripels out there.
