Commercial Description:
Chimay Blanche (White), with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz and John White

Orange, amber colored brew. Fruity, herbal aroma. Fruity, herbal, sweet flavor with some bitterness. Very nice one.

Hazy golden pour, clingy remnants of heavy foam. Wet clipped grass, golden kiwi and burnt brown sugar on the nose. Notes of mildew and cinnamon force their way into this party of misfits. Mostly spoiled tastes of hops turned to compost, lemonade and iron. Musty hints of hay suggest a mysterious farmhouse quality, but only vaguely. Unfulfilled. Smack of mildly sour blue cheese at the finish. Sharp and somewhat acidic palate. Complex, but not pleasing.

My least favorite Chimay, but still pretty darn good. Pours a light golden orange with foamy head. Hops and dried fruit make up the taste with a slightly bitter finish. Let it warm a bit and it opens up beautifully.

Bottle version poured into Chimay glass. Pours a hazy golden yellow color wit ha thick and fully lasting white head. Slightly tropical fruit aroma with just a hint of spice and lots of yeast. Sweet fruity start gives way to a yeasty middle that gives way to a slightly spicy/hoppy finish. Finish eventually gives way to a lasting banana flavor. The carbonation feels rough on the palate. A solid beer.

RE-RATE It’s hard for me to get excited about this beer anymore; the other Chimays are so much more complex while this one tastes more like an average tripple. Hazy-light golden color. Spicy beginning that fades but still retains some of its character toward the finish. Strong mouthfeel, but still my least favorite of the Chimays. Original rating 1/1/2002 9-5-9-4-17 An excellent brew. I can’t really decide if I like this or Chimay Blue better. Well-balanced hoppiness, fruity flavors are evident.
