Commercial Description:
Chimay Blanche (White), with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz and John White

Bottle conditioned, 330ml, aged 6.5yrs. Clear gold with white head. The beer was obviously still working in the bottle giving a full spicy, slightly caramel rounded flavour. The flavours had amalgamated into a slightly over rich puddingy type taste with a touch of brandy on the back of the tongue. Nicely fruity on the finish, lovely.

Bottled: Is golden coloured. Hazy with pretty head. Lots of spices in the nose. Has lots of alcahol in the flavour but is well spiced and sweetish. Has a light bitterness in the aftertaste.

[Cinq Cents] Very nice appearance. Much wheat and fruitiness in the nose. Dry, fruity and hoppy flavour. Reminds me of Leffe Blonde. This is not one of the best trappists I’ve had.

Big bottle: Huge, lasting, rocky head, hazy, orangey coloured; complex fruity nose (oranges, bananas, peaches(?)), some traces of caramel and alcohol; sweetish fruity start, moderate sweet flavour; the fruity, yeasty, complex taste becomes dryer towards the end; dry slightly bitter aftertaste. Fine, but not sooo impressive, a well made, stronger Weizen colud do the same job.....

Bottled, 0.33ltr. Hazy orange-golden beer with a lasting, dense, off-white head. Yeast and alcohol in the aroma, along with lemon-peel and some spicyness. Flavor is fruity, with alcohol and dried fruits. Long-lasting bitterness and pleasant mouthfeel. Definately not a bad beer, just a bit to ordinary, if you can say that of a tripel. Rating: 7-5-7-4-14-3.7. (060202)

Bottle, 33cl. It pours a hazy golden-orange body with lots of carbonation. The Westmalle-goblet is topped by a thumb-thick, creamy off-white head. As I’m drinking, lacings hangs on the side of the glass. Very fruity on the nose, lots of spices, and hints of yeast. Banana, lemon peel, coriander, alcohol, peppery hops and dreams of cheese. It’s full-bodied, effervescent and quite warming in the mouth, almost sticky sweet. The flavor is fruity, mostly lemon-peel, and quite bitter, with alcohol, white sugar and fruityness added. Nice spiced touch as well, leading to a lasting, warming finish with good bitterness, lemon-peel, spicyness and sweetness. Besides looking gorgeous in the glass, this beer tastes and smells very nice, and despite it’s high abv, it drinks dangerously well too. A true classic I don’t visit often enough. (090818)

Chalky flour cream...Very yeasty clouds obscure the sweet oranges in the distance...Alcohol bitterness meets the hops’ in the back...Between a tripel and a witbier...Lemon, pepper, floral hops and cinnamon also play very quietly...
