Commercial Description:
Chimay Blanche (White), with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz and John White

750mL bottle poured into a Tripel Karmeliet chalice. It is a darker color of copper with a wonderfully rich creamy head leaving an excellant ring and spotty lacing on the glass. Yeasty aromas come through, as well as biscuits, bread, clove, nutmeg, and banana. Taste is much of the same with the alcohol hidden very well and just a bit of hop presence in the finish. Medium body with light carbonation that tingles nicely on the tongue. Very nice to drink, always a solid choice.

Probably my favourite triple. I like the banana, vanilla and bread tones. This is what good Belgian beer is all about. It’s extremely far removed from the amateurish abbey ales that give Belgian beer a bad name these days. Chimay White is 8%, but you’d never guess that. Also, it’snot sweet at all, there’s just those lovely malty flavours.

On tap, my first Chimay from tap. What a nice beer, I can’t really complain at all about this beer. It was pretty damn close to perfect for a tripel. Aroma: floral hops with yeast and citrus fruits. Palate was rich and filled the mouth. Alcohol: Was there any alcohol in this beer what a good balance. Finished dry and balanced with no one flavor of the brew dominating too much. The only complaint is that I finished it too fast. I will have to rate a bottle later.

Cloudy and amber. Poured into a trappist glass, the aroma opens up. Very rich with the undertone of alcohol and mellow fruit. Warm in the throat to finish. Leaves a big smile on your face.

While this beer is a very good one, it has a strong flavor which is done just right, I’d say this is their hoppiest beer. If you drink a Chimay you can’t go wrong.

11.2 oz bottle. Pour nicely into my glass. Wonderful appearance. Chuncky murk that smells of spice and subtle fruit. Nice carbonation. An earthy flavor. Wonderful! 1 of my top 3 ales!

In my opinion Chimay’s finest. Soft complexity of flavours in the nose, and taste, wonderful aroma. No overwhelming alcohol. Aroma is citrusy, some orange peels. Taste is soft orange, a bit of barley. Great mouthfeel. Great marriage of everything. You can drink tihs forever, and it’s easily available. Great stuff.
