I smell apple, apricot, raisin, other fruits. Lovely! Taste is smoother than the Blue. Extremely smooth, almost session like. I like this one a lot. The only thing it could use a little more of is some caramel, chocolate malt flavors. Hazmatt (363), Virginia, USA

Strong flavor hints of banana, spice with strong bitterness in finish and some alcohol presence, warming, slight astringency. Very good. Bartzilla (443), San Diego, California, USA

I like a good tripel and this defines the style to a tee. Refreshing, light and packs a wallop. This is also the only Chimay you will find on tap. Chimay also makes excellent cheese. If it weren’t for the "no sex" nonsense, I’d seriously consider going there and being a monk. Belial (60), France

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 23, 2006 I first had this as one of a 3-pack with a glass included. I just drank that little guy and didn’t review it. I liked it well enough that I bought this 750ml caged and corked bottle that I’m reviewing. After removing the cork and getting one of the younger pairs of eyes in the house I confirmed the date on the cork, 06/04. :-) The color is a bright light orange gold color and there is plenty of stuff floating around in the glass, my new Chimay glass of course. It formed a nice inch high creamy head that had some staying power when first poured. The aroma off the head was very hoppy, but after the head died down there were some fruity smells. Now the taste is quite different than that small bottle I had. I get a leather taste which for me is the first time I’ve ever tasted this in a beer. There is a little fruit on the palate and the finish is clean and slightly hoppy. LennyH (60), Delaware, USA

The usual tripel color with a thick, off white head that doesn’t diminish. Creamier and less dry and bitter than the Westmalle Tripel I reviewed yesterday. I prefer the Westmalle but this is still very good. yngwie (4974), Kristiansand, Norway

Hazy orange-golden beer with a lasting, dense, off-white head. Yeast and alcohol in the aroma, along with lemon-peel and some spicyness. Flavor is fruity, with alcohol and dried fruits. Long-lasting bitterness and pleasant mouthfeel. Definately not a bad beer, just a bit to ordinary, if you can say that of a tripel. Rating: 7-5-7-4-14-3.7. (060202)
Bottle, 33cl. It pours a hazy golden-orange body with lots of carbonation. The Westmalle-goblet is topped by a thumb-thick, creamy off-white head. As I’m drinking, lacings hangs on the side of the glass. Very fruity on the nose, lots of spices, and hints of yeast. Banana, lemon peel, coriander, alcohol, peppery hops and dreams of cheese. It’s full-bodied, effervescent and quite warming in the mouth, almost sticky sweet. The flavor is fruity, mostly lemon-peel, and quite bitter, with alcohol, white sugar and fruityness added. Nice spiced touch as well, leading to a lasting, warming finish with good bitterness, lemon-peel, spicyness and sweetness. Besides looking gorgeous in the glass, this beer tastes and smells very nice, and despite it’s high abv, it drinks dangerously well too. A true classic I don’t visit often enough. (090818)
