Commercial Description:
Chimay Blanche (White), with its typical golden colour, its slightly hazy appearance and its fine head is especially characterised by its aroma which results from an agreeable combination of fresh hops and yeast. The beer's flavour, as sensed in the mouth, comes from the smell of hops: above all it is the fruity notes of muscat and raisins that give this beer a particularly attractive aroma. The aroma complements the touch of bitterness. There is no acidity, but an after-bitterness which melts in the mouth. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.
Ingredients: Water, malted barley, wheat starch, sugar, hop extract and yeast. See Protz and John White

2005 33cl bottle. Excellent tripel. Aroma of pepper, tabacco, phenol, clove and orange. The aroma draws almost directly into the flavor with more prenouced phenol, clove and pepper, with just a hint of orange and tobacco followed by a mellow bitterness. The sprite carbonation plays great with the aroma, flavor and dryness of the beer. An well crafted beer!

My favorite Chimay to date. Not sure why I haven’t rated this before, but here it goes. The aroma is full of nice complexities like honey, apples, yeast, sweet malt and graham crackers. Medium carbonation with a huge, frothy seafoamy white head with some nice Belgian lacing. Flavors are yeast, light fruits, marshmallows, caramel, and spices. Very nice beer and perhaps Chimay’s best.

A delightful beer... hauled home from Belgium by my girlfirend but it’s available here in Ireland too. The aroma is simply amazing. The pungent global brands should be ashamed of themselves. The head is picture perfect and the taste was delightful.

Pours very cloudy orange with off-white head. Aroma of yeast and dried berries. Faint malty sweetness, rather prominent hops for an Abbey Tripel, yeasty, residual spiciness with dried berries and citrus zest. Not particularly dry (again, surprising for a Tripel) and strongly carbonated.

Amber with a thick white head. Rich dried fruit smell with a slight malt finish. Full fruit finish with a minty after finish. Very pleasant as most trappist beers.

What a great beer! Nice poor with a foggy gold color which settles well. Great fruity aroma which carries through to the flavor and aftertatste. Truly an excellent choice if you love Belgium beers.

750 mL bottle. Highly carbonated - cork and suds flew out of there like champagne! Poured into a snifter. Orange in color, slightly hazy. Huge pale head. Aroma is very grainy, like fresh bread, with just a touch of sourness in the background. Also earthy with just a little fruity component, but I can’t identify it. Taste was more hoppy and bitter than I expected and the alcohol was very pronounced, but after warming a bit it became much smoother and better balanced. It coats the inside of my mouth and leaves a nice lingering bitterness. Let this one warm a bit and it’s great.

UPDATE: I finally got some real Chimay glasses and had some of this beer on hand. I have to say that the proper glassware made a great difference in an already great beer. The etching in the bottom keeps that fine head throughout the short life of the glass and the open top really brings out the brighter flavors in the aroma. The flowery hops and yeasty sourness really come forward to compliment the grainy parts. This is definitely the way to enjoy this beer!
