Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

Nice golden hazy pour with an over-active wheaty head, That leaves a lot less carbonation in the glass which seems OK. Smell spice wort pine citrus and herbs.Taste - grassy and very aromatic sparkly hop character over the very traditional Tripel sweet pale malt, fruit, and spice. Creamy feel and I swear I’m getting some vanilla. Palate is definitely a bit peppery and bracingly dry. Lingering grassy dryness is great. Warm alcohol but not sharp. The end lacing of the glass is dense and elegant, coating the surface unevenly. Quality.

(75cl bottle) Hazy, golden colour with a thick foamy white head. Yeasty and moderately sweet malty aroma with fresh and aromatic, slightly floral and zesty hops. Sweet-bitter flavour, full bodied with a calm carbonation. Pale malt-character with light notes of citrus and almost piney, zesty hops, lingering into the lasting well-blended malty and hoppy finish. Superb and moreish brew (22.VII.09).

Pours golden, hazy, huge white head, great lace. Nose of yeast, spice, hops, citrus. Taste is yeasty, malty, spicy, and hoppy, finishes bitter and dry. An interesting mix.

Bottle. Lemon candy! Perfume, spun/cotton candy, banana and bubblegum, hops are initially subdued, but come roaring to life as this beer warms. Pretty, delicate, wonderfully balanced. More a tripel than an IPA, but very interesting and well done.

Surprised I never rated this but here goes... I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of Belgian beers and I’ve always been skeptical or Belgian IPAs. This pours a slightly cloudy straw yellow with a rocky, frothy, stiff white head. Nose is lemons, grapefruits, something a touch medicinal, grass, and herbs. Grass, pine, herbs and flowers all in the mouth. Dry and yeasty. Drinkable but I didn’t love it.

Bottle. Golden with a white head. Aromas are yeast and soft citrus with some pine. Some honey in the form of Lockets cough lozenges. Tropical fruit mix with some herbal, floral notes. Flavours are sweet tropical fruit with grapefruit and apricot. Some herbal notes also come through. Yeasty and dry with a peppery finish. Warming alcohol with some light pine bitterness on the finish. Good.

Double IPA Triple a 9% Une robe plutot dorée avec une mousse épaisse qui demeure longtemps. Léger goût floral et de houblon. Le 9% d’alcool est discret. Le prix est par contre trop élevé au Québec pour se procurer cette bière.
