MitchWayne (264), Kokkola, Finland Apr 10, 2009 A tripel on steroid, great malt character and hugely hoppy for the style. Nice balance between sweetness and bitterness. Unusual stuff, first the bitterness was almost too much for the beer but I ended up loving it. jmm635 (250), Havertown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 10, 2009 Hazy pale yellow pour with a large rocky, yet creamy, everlasting white head. Typical tripel aromas - citrus, yeast, and alcohol. If you dig around you’ll get a nice hoppyness underneath. More hop flavor than the nose suggests, and I found the orange flavor to be stronger as well. Quite a dry finish. Excellent blend of an IPA and a tripel. Why don’t more brewers make a similar style? wacho (51), Izegem, Belgium Apr 9, 2009 Zeer hoppig aroma, rotsschuim. Een lichte ijzersmaak die door de hop wordt overheerst. Zowel in het mondgevoel als in de nasmaak is het hop, hop, hop BMan1113VR (2757), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Apr 8, 2009 Pours with a voluminous, gigantic, creamy white head that leaves good lace as it slowly recedes over a hazed golden body. Aroma of sweet Belgian yeastiness, candi sugar, apricot, pear, marshmallow and some citrus hops. Taste is sweet with apricot, pear and hops, alcohol and peach eau de vie. Noticeable fusel alcohols in the taste. Light bubbles and a thin, alcoholic mouthfeel. This beer is all over the place, doesn’t meld very well. angrypirate06 (678), Texas, USA Apr 8, 2009 Bottle. Large rocky head, with a hazy gold body. The aroma was yeast, clove and hops. The taste was a bit of floral hops, yeast, butter, but this bottle was pretty skunked. Elwood (667), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Apr 7, 2009 750 ml bottle. Pours a light golden color with a slight haze. A huge, meringue like head formed as soon as I started pouring. Yeast, grass, and some lemon in the nose. Low carbonation with a light mouthfeel. Lemon, lime, a bit of yeast, and a little malt sweetness on the palate. Medium-light body. A lingering bitterness in the finish. A little grainy sweetness lingers too. This one was a lot of fun to drink and would be perfect for a hot summer day. Tejas (693), Dallas, Texas, USA Apr 4, 2009 Draught > Flying Saucer. Good surprise seeing this one on the wall. More of a Tripel than an IIPA but not by much. Good refreshing beer that hides the 9% very well. Very drinkable. Fruity and a little dry. Would like to try again. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Apr 1, 2009 Bottle from circle liquor(fformer name). Not my favorite d’Achouffe offering. Has a nice head and nice flavor.
