tarheels86 (700), Washington DC, USA Mar 25, 2009 750 mL into tulip. Pours a slightly translucent yellow with a massive four-finger white head that does not leave. Beautiful tripel aroma of light fruits, Belgian yeast, candi sugar, cloves, coriander, peach tart and lemon peel. Insane lacing. Taste is very unconventional. Very dry and tart throughout. Begins with chardonnay plus orange peel then the spicy hops show through with lots of grapefruit. Ends very dry and yeasty with lots of sourdough bread and herbal hops. Very strange but this is the very IPA Tripel. 9% is well hidden- watch out. Very good but I would say Tripel Karmeliet is still my favorite for the style. Ryan82SM (229), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Mar 21, 2009 Interesting aroma in this one: ripe citrus, clover and spicy hop character. The yeast seems to be in a state of suspended animation in my glass, nice carbonated head as well. Definitely an IPA, with hops and citrus abound. The tripel part comes later, and has a nice finish of clove and yeast. Palate is very active, yet maintains a certain creaminess as well. I was blown away by this underrated beer. jameswolfe (141), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Mar 21, 2009 Also had at JKO. I think this one is a little overrated. It is good, but maybe my bottle was a little off. It has the sweet scent of fruit and honey, but the finish is a little twangy foy my taste. Trappist (279), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Mar 17, 2009 I noticed the extreme fruitiness straight away, but the dryness was lossed by a slightly syrupy sweetness. I was very enjoyable but, I would like to try other brews by the brasserie d’ achouffe. fidelis83 (707), Clinton, Iowa, USA Mar 17, 2009 12oz. from John’s Grocery. Pours milky honey with a fairly large number of small particulates, many of which are constantly in motion from the high effervescence and large bubbles. Head in my chalice is nearly 2 fingers of fluffy yellowish beige foam that lasts as long as this drink did (I poured it fairly cold, probably 45 minutes altogether) and leaves nice thick foamy lacing the whole way down. Aroma is citrus, grass, fruity yeast, burnt sugar, toffee, musty hay, peach, yeasty bread rolls, lemon and wheat. Flavor is caramel, melon, pineapple, arpricot, yeasty bread, grapefruit, honey wheat dinner rolls, weak herbal hops, peach cobbler, hints of light toffee, almond and some orange zest. Finish is bitter grapefruit, sweet grainy and caramel malts, lots of fruity esters and some generally citrus notes. Palate is medium thickness, dry and slightly sticky on the lips, finishes dry and slightly acidic. Fantastic Tripel in my opinion and by far the best IPA/Tripel hybrid I have had. dmac (1414), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Mar 12, 2009 Draft at High Street. Poured a clear bubbly gold with a large foamy white head. Aroma was fruity and yeasty with some very noticeable hops that come off fruity but more peachy then citrus. Medium bodied with strong carbonation. The sweetness of the triple is cut by the strong hop presence but highly drinkable. mike1977ok (633), Netherlands Mar 11, 2009 Pale, hazy golden colour. Spicy, yeasty flavour fades into some dry hop bitterness. Slightly warming through the alcohol although it’s flavour is not tracable.
SHANER4 (370), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Mar 10, 2009 1 pt. 9.4 oz. bottle - Poured cloudy straw color with huge foaming head and alot of chunks floating around.
Aroma - yeast, wheat, light citrus and opium.
Flavor - bread, spice, citrus, alcohol and pineapple.
Palate - medium bodied with alot of carbonation. Finish is dry and bitter with a somewhat metallic aftertaste.
Overall - Well crafted beer except for the huge soapy head. It foamed up like vinegar and baking soda. It also tastes better when it warms, flavor seem to blend better.
