JohnQPublic (387), Brooklyn, New York, USA May 21, 2008 Updated: Jul 7, 2008Bottle in chalice. Pours hazy gold with a magnificent creamy, pillowy, rocky white head. Looks more like the head on a cappuccino than that of a beer; beautiful, and lasts forever. Aroma is citrus, yeasty, spice. Taste is complex; begins with candy-like sweetness, before moving to spicy yeast and citrus, and finishing with a dry, pronounced hop bitterness that lingers on the palate. Mouthfeel is crisp, well carbonated and with a dry finish. Intriguing and very complex beer, absolute masterpiece. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA May 20, 2008 Bottle from Pix Patisserie in Portland, Oregon--Poured a light hazy amber body with a big fluffy white head. Hoppy, fruity, yeasty hopped nose. Tropical, complex, spicy piquancy quite unique to this brew. BeerDude78 (86), Denville, New Jersey, USA May 18, 2008 One of the best tripels I’ve ever tasted to date. Hops and malts are perfectly aligned. Hints of bannana, citrus, apple and plums. Massive head with every pour. Hops have a pine grassy undertones and are also very complex. No alcohol aftertaste at all. Awesome Brew!!! BeerFanDan17 (610), Land O Lakes, Florida, USA May 18, 2008 An incredible IPA in the Belgian style. Incredible balance of hops and malt. Nice floral and fruity flavors contribute to the hops. mgoy (343), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA May 17, 2008 Chouffe Houblon Dobbelen IPA Tripel is a hazy light amber color with a very large and nicely formed creamy off-white head. The aroma is slightly spoiled and sour. The taste is very smooth and has a great flavor with loads of malt and spices. blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA May 14, 2008 750 ml bottle, large popcorn head with golden yellow color, lots of pineapple flavors with some coconut thrown in, great body with good finish beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA May 11, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy dull gold with some floaties. Large brilliant white head that is continuously fed by a multitude of tiny carbonation bubbles. The head ends up looking more like whipped cream it is so dense, but leaves surprisingly little lace. Very pleasant aroma of citrus, sugar, yeast, and a bit of spice. The flavor is a bit sweet with sugar and citrus the most prevalent with some spice detected as well. Really nice crisp mouthfeel and the bitterness is well restrained and in good proportion. The alcohol is very well hidden with no hint of the 9% abv. Very enjoyable beer. maltdog (509), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 10, 2008 The 750 has scads of bottle sediment and uncaps with a muted hiss. The bright yellow ale settles in my tulip, turbid with floaties and capped with lopsided foam. Lace coats the glass like spay paint. I am welcomed by a complex yet shy nose, consisting of citrus, yeast, watermelon rind, lychee, dried ginger, dried apricots, and white pepper scents. The bittersweet flavor includes chewy caramels and lemongrass, clove and cornmeal, and the sweetness (actually more “sugary” than “sweet”) does not linger. The body is brisk and voluptuous. A spicy finish tingles like static electricity. Clean tight bitterness, menthol and marigold musk complete the aftertaste. Only slightly more hoppy than a textbook tripel; nonetheless, a very nice marriage of styles and a solid ale overall.
