Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

A very interesting beer. Not too sure if it really fits into the ’tripel’ category, but its damn good. Much more hoppy than any tripel i’ve had, but finished as expected. If you are looking for an IPA, don’t be fooled by the name.

33cL bottle, consumed at Pizzeria Paradiso (Georgetown). Pours a murky orange-yellow / grapefruit color; textured white head with great retention and fine-bubbled lacing, coating the glass; a gorgeous pour. Tons of dense yeastiness, grapefruit, toastiness, and warming vanilla and fruit in the aroma; dense, dry, with a prominent fruitiness. Lively carbonation. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of yeast, yellow fruits and toasty vanilla; the yeast character is pretty fantastic; dry; very generous. Lengthy finish, showing yeast, and dry breadiness and wheaty / toastiness; some yellow fruit.

Pale golden yellow with a beautiful thick and cloudy head. Nose has suprisingly authentic IPA-like hoppiness, grassy and sweet fruity aromas with some wheaty tripel. Flavor strongly hopped with sweet maltiness. Finishes drier, with more of the tripel spiciness. Almost full bodied with quite strong but smooth carbonation. Exotic and sweet, a delicious symbiosis.

Bottle sampled at the Kulminator: Unfortunately this beer seemed to be just a little bit past its prime. Hops were kind of catty, earthy, and dusty, not fresh and citrussy. Poured golden with a tremendous head, that just sat beautifully ontop of the beer. Really beautiful looking. Flavor was less appetizing because it was out of its prime. Kind of catty, with some spicy notes. Mouth feel was very digestible, fine bubbbles and light feeling. re-rate bottle at ABC abbey bar: flavor is initially classic chouffe with lots of pepper and some funk. half way through the hops show up with unique citrus, mango, and spiciness. nice chewy malt bodied in the middle. Quite a synergy of things happening. Very much a tripel with ipa tendancies. excellent mouthfeel, and head retention, that left snowy lace on the glass. I love this beer.

Bottle. This pours a translucent golden with a good amount of sediment and some thick, white head. The lacing is pretty decent as well. The aroma is a blast of an orange-y sweetness with banana, orange, pineapple, and hops. The flavour is very full. Citrus-y flavours are pretty strong as well as a lot of hops. It’s also very sweet, but in a natural fruit sweetness kind of way. The finish is smooth and sweet with some light bitterness. This is a perfect combination of the delicate flavours of the Tripel mixed with the bold flavours of an IPA. The hops are strong, but not overpowering. This is very delicious.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle and a big white head sat on top of very cool yellow golden color. Modest aromas of sweetness and yeast. Mouthfeel smooth with some carbonation. Great sweet sugar, citrus, malt. Beneath is some bitter hops and not way out front or over the top. Good finish blending the two partners.Very drinkable tasty brew.
