Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

(10/20/08) Draught at Monk’s Cafe in Philadelphia. Cloudy orange-golden with a medium white head. Aroma of citrus hops, some spice, yeast and some fruits (peach, a bit of apricot and a bit of apples). Sweetish flavor, a bit spicy, with some caramel, fruits, and a bitter finish with hops, notes of citrus and spices, a bit of earth and subdued alcohol hints. Nice mouthfeel. Good.

Bottle. Attractive clear golden with a thick, billowy white head. Kind of a “dusty” herbal hop aroma, pretty subdued. Flavor is mostly pale malt with ample hop bitterness, perhaps a tinge of Belgian fruity yeast character but not much. Some residual sweetness in there. The hop character is mostly herbal/earthy. I don’t pick up any of the Amarillo or Tomahawk though. medium bodied with a spritzy, lively carbonation. Nice texture. Would like to give this one another try sometime.

Poured a slightly cloudy straw color beneath a pile of foam. The smell reminds me more of a tripel, but the hops are there, too. Nice palate, and the hop turn at the end of the drink is a pleasant surprise. I’m sure there are more of these types of brews in the works, and I’ll be interested to see how they all fall out, quality-wise.

Pours a hazy golden orange with a large milky white creamy head. Very full aroma, Belgian candi sugar, loads of flowery noble, yeasty, light orange. First taste is extremely bitter, juicy & chalky, with sweet spicy orange underneath. Hides the 9% well. Full mouthful, milky with larger but softer carbonation. Finishes very dry with a long bitter/vitamin C aftertaste. I think I prefer de Ranke XX Bitter. It is great to burp up noble hops though! Someone get me some cheese!

Bottle - 760ml. Hazy pale blond body topped with a huge white frothy/bubbly head. Fresh hoppy aroma with coriander, citrusy and yeasty hints. Alcohol is very well hidden. Taste is anything but a blast of hoppiness. It ends with a long, robust, dry bitter/herbal finish. This is truly brewed for real hops lovers.

Clear yellow. Light amount of hops. Fruity yet holds the bitter finish attributed to hops. Interesting to say the least. Extremely dry finish however. Meh, this didn’t do much for me.

Draft at High Street. Poured a clear bubbly gold with a large foamy white head. Aroma was fruity and yeasty with some very noticeable hops that come off fruity but more peachy then citrus. Medium bodied with strong carbonation. The sweetness of the triple is cut by the strong hop presence but highly drinkable.

Draught at SunSet Grill 4/27/06. Pours a very cloudy bright golden color with a huge white rocky head. Head receedes leaving lots of thick lacing throughout the glass. Nose is very yeasty, light hops, some cloves and light banana esters. Palate is slightly chalky and biscuity with a residue finish. Flavors of much yeast, light banana and clove, some biscuits and light hops.
