Commercial Description:
A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the new American revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing. Houblon Chouffe, although very much hopped as it is, showcases the unique balance between a very strong IPA and a very special Belgian Tripel exclusively created for this ale (Big malty body, distinct dryness, expressive estery fruitiness). - IBU: 59, Original Gravity: 1092

Bottle I picked up at BevMo in SLO. Pours a hazy-Houston sunrise yellow with an enormous pure white head that has great lacing. In fact, the head disappeared on the sides and left this intriguing Devil’s Tower replica in the middle every time I poured...I half expected Richard Dreyfus to show up at my house and request mashed potatoes. Aromas of Belgian yeast and hops...spices just behind that. Taste is very unique and wonderfully pleasing. Soft malts, apples and pears up front, followed by armies of marching hops...here they come! Wow...slowly attacks the tongue with fantastic hop flavors. Citrus...grapefruit and lime/lemons....along with pine resin and bread notes. Gives a very interesting tingly feeling on the tongue...like it’s dancing a jig for the beer gods. Finish lingers...which is great, because now I’m done with this great brew.

750ml Bottle.

Pours a hazy yellow-brown with a lovely full whipped-eggwhite head that lasts and lasts and lasts. The aroma is a wonderful coupling of pine-forest hops and belgian yeast spiciness; the flavor comes together with a dominant belgian Tripel spiciness, plenty of citrus dancing around, quite dry from the hops, turning onto a lovely hop finish that actually warms in tone with sweet honey late on the long end of the flavor profile. The alcohol is well concealed and the beer has a crisply refreshing carbonation to it that makes it a delight to sip.

Marvellous fusion of perhaps my two favorite styles.

750mL bottle poured into tulip. Pours a hazy, bright yellow with a big fluffy white head that leaves some clumpy white retention and lots of lacing. The aroma starts with some lemon zest and some grassy hops but gave way to the massive spicy yeast backbone. The taste is more of the same with a slight sweetness from light fruits and sugar. The spicy yeast is more prevalent and the finish has some grassy, spicy hops. The mouthfeel is fairly lively with good carbonation and slightly spicy in the finish. An excellent Belgian IPA with a dominant yeast spiciness and enough sweetness to make things interesting.

Bottle. Poured a hazy pale with a tall frothy head that had some lasting and thick lace. Nice floral and citrus aromas with a malt backing. The flavor was much like iced tea; some spices, caramel, and a light fruit and hop background. Medium body and dry, with a light bitter aftertaste.

Got it in a bottle from World of Beer in Westchase. This beer pours a hazy yellow color with a lot of particles in the beer. It has a bready/ citrusy/ spicy aroma with a thick mouthfeel. It laces the glass right up after hitting you with sour orange bite from start through finish. Good beer, definitely unique.

Creates a thick white pillow of foam immediately once poured into my trappist glass. Appears as a solid pure gold color with thick sediment seen floating about. The nose is of sour apple but also shares a sweet malt character as well. Flavor is intially sour and tart with strong yeast and apple. So-so.

Hats off to dAchouffe for this interesting abbey tripel which suggested a spiced IPA. Does it work? Yes and no. Light golden, murky pour with huge white head that is frothy like thick merenge. Incredible lacing and appearance. The aroma was full of coriander, hops, spices, orange peel and tangerine. The flavor starts sweet — orange juice, fruits with a touch of coriander — and then turns extra bitter for the finish and aftertaste. The palate of this medium bodied beer is smooth to start but turns sticky for a long finish. This beer had so much going on in the aroma and flavor, you couldn’t help but enjoy it. Then again, you ask yourself whether you’d rather be drinking a good double IPA or a good abbey tripel — separately.

Bottle. Very carbonated, golden color, large white head with large bubbles and nice lacing. Yeasty and hoppy aroma. Lots of spice, and some fruit. Flavor is very interesting--citrus, fruit, dry finish, grassy aftertaste. Truly a unique thing, and I am very glad that argo0 insisted that I buy it.
